You’re Just A Sad Song With Nothing To Say

The beast went to step towards Lee, its eyes locked on his own.

“Kumiko, do you not hear me?! We can’t afford to get distracted!”

The beast shook its head before focusing on the Akatsuki that were soon to attack it. “Sorry, just wanted to say goodbye…”

“Everyone, let’s go! Don’t battle any one person by yourself, you’re sure to fail,” Kakashi yelled, sending the Jounin to attack the Akatsuki. When he was about to jump off as well, Naruto stopped him.

“What are we supposed to do?”

“… I think you would all be useless in the fight.”

“Then what the hell are we supposed to do? I am not going to stand here and do nothing.”

“Try to get Kumiko out of that thing. Like Lee said, she’s still the one in control. Do whatever you can for her.”

Everyone jumped away except for the blonde haired boy and his Sensei. “But… The old lady said once the demon was out… Kumiko will die.”

Kakashi stared Naruto in the eyes, showing the emotions that were running behind them. Sadness, disappointment, and failure.

“She will die Naruto… There’s nothing I can do about that.”

Before Naruto could reply the older man jumped away and he began to shake. So, there was nothing he could do at all? Even after he promised Konohamaru that he would bring the girl back, it was a promise that he couldn’t keep.

“No… I never go back on my promises!” The emotions inside the boy started to flare, and orange glowing coming from him as well. Two tails came out of his now Chakra body, and the demon in him looked up at the Eleven Tailed Beast.

“… Are you serious? I’m in my puny two tailed form against the Eleven tailed beast?! Nice life I had.”

Seeing as Naruto had control over himself somewhat, he charged at the chakra engulfed Kumiko, slashing at her.

“Let go of Kumiko, she has a life to live damn it! This can’t be the end for her!”

There on the ground sat a kid with green goggles and an orange jumpsuit. He opened his deep sea blue eyes to meet her teal ones. He scanned her before locking with her eyes. They sent a shiver down his spine.

"Be careful where your running," she said, "you could get hurt." The blonde nodded his head and took her hand when she offered it.

"My names Naruto," he said. Kumiko smiled.

He wouldn’t let her die… not now, not ever. She had too much of a life left to live. She had to be there to see him become the future Hokage.

"Kumiko!"

The thirteen year old girl turned her head to look and see who had called her. A young boy in an orange jumpsuit was running toward her, waving his hands franticly. Naruto…

"Yes Naruto?" she asked when he was closer to her. "Do you think we could hang out for a little bit?" he had asked her. Kumiko looked up at the sky in thought. "Sure, why not." Naruto grinned as he walked beside her, walking down the road.

"Are you a good Ninja Kumiko?" The red head had smirked down at him.

"One of the best." His eyes were wide as he looked up at her. He was hanging out with on of the best Ninjas ever!

"Are you going to be a great Ninja?" she questioned. The blonde looked up at her with his big blue eyes. "Huh? Yeah! I'm going to be the best Ninja there ever was! Then, I'm going to become Hokage and people won't treat me the way they do anymore. I'll never give up or back down, Believe it!"

“This is getting quite annoying! I’m trying to get out of here and your friends are getting in my way!”

“That’s not my fault; they think that you’re using me, that I’m in danger. They’re trying to get me back…”

Kasai was lost for a moment, falling into the pit of the girl’s sadness.

“But they can’t save you.”

“I know…”

But I can…

*****

Sasuke grunted as he hit the tree one of the many tails had thrown him into. That hadn’t been the first time either. Was Kakashi really expecting them to release Kumiko from this beast?

And that’s when it hit him. Kakashi just gave them something to do to get them out of the way. There really was no saving Kumiko, which was why the adults didn’t look hopeful, even though they were beating the organization.

No matter what he did, what any of them did, Kumiko wasn’t coming back.

She waited for a minute or so and soon, and onyx haired boy in blue walked into the trees. He had to be about eleven year old at the least. He was strong looking and she could tell he was lost. Even if he didn't want to admit it.

Jumping out of the bushes, Kumiko landed in front of his, scaring him a little. "Are you lost?" she asked him coolly and he glared at her. Her whole attention was on him now. He looked quite familiar. Oh, that's right, he was the last Uchiha. Sasuke was it?

"Look Uchiha, you don't have to be tough around me, I'm a Ninja. Now, do you want help out of here or not?" After a few seconds of pause, he nodded his head in defeat and followed Kumiko as she walked the opposite way from her house. She didn't need him knowing she was the Hokage's 'daughter'. In what seemed like minutes, they were back to the slightly busy streets of Konohagakure.

When Sasuke went to thank the girl, he turned to see she was gone.

“No, I won’t accept that. I never got to battle her, and I’m not letting her die until I’ve beaten her!”

"Do you feel okay, Uchiha?" He 'Hm'ed, signally that he was fine. Kumiko ignored that, touching one of the large bruises on his arm. He winced then glared at her. "Fine, huh? Here, I'll help you." She held her hand to his chest lightly. They glowed green for a second before returning back to normal. His minor injuries were gone.

"I don't want to waste my Chakra on an enemy, but I can't let you walk around with little things that can get infected, " she winked at him, "You'll have to fight me sooner or later, and I want you in top condition."

Sasuke gave her a weak smirk as she walked away. Fighting her would be a challenge of a life time, along with her brother.

*****

“Come on Kumiko… snap out of it! I thought you were stronger than this!”

“TenTen, calm down, yelling isn’t going to help anything!”

“Don’t tell me to calm down! No matter how hard we try, Kumiko’s not coming back. We’ll never get our teammate back!”

“What are you talking about?” Neji asked, stopping the battling process a moment before continuing.

“I read it in a book before, about demon’s who live in their hosts. When they are released from the person they live in, the human dies! Even if we get her out of there, she’ll already be dead.”

TenTen didn’t stop fighting, even though the tears fell down her cheeks nonstop and clouded her vision.

“Kumiko’s… gonna die?”

Neji’s lavender eyes stared at the girl surrounded by the Chakra. Although nothing seemed like her, she was in complete control. Then his eyes got wider. She knew what was going to happen. Kumiko knew that she was going to die, no matter what. By why was she doing this?

"Give up now Kumiko, there is no way you can win." "Oh, but I don't think so." Neji smirked and threw Kunai at the girl. She dodged then and threw her own Senbon at the dark haired boy. He caught one, deflecting the rest with that one. "How about Taijutsu time?" Kumiko suggested. Neji nodded his head and they both charged at each other, Every time one would throw a punch or kick, it was deflected by the other. After fifteen minutes or so, they were both getting tired and Kumiko decided to end it

Kumiko jumped back away from him and put her hands out in front of her. With string only visible to her eyes, she connected them to Neji and he stopped dead in his tracks. The only thing he could do was yell at her.

"What have you done?!" he shouted.

"I used my Chakra string on you. You have become my personal puppet. I could kill you right now it I wanted to. But seeing as you’re a teammate and not an Enemy, I won't have to. Now, give up, because there is no way your getting out of this." She could tell he was struggling to get control of his body, but she also knew that he couldn't. And he knew it too.

"Fine, I give up." Kumiko released the strings and Neji glared at her. "Don't be all bitter Neji, it doesn't fit you."

“You were so annoying… but I can’t just watch you as you sacrifice yourself for god knows what. You’re my teammate and I will protect you with my life! It is my destiny.”

”Hey Neji,” Kumiko said, pushing the raven haired boy so he would listen to her.

“What do you want brat?”

“Don’t call me brat! Anyway… do you really believe in all that destiny crap? I mean, come on…”

“I was raised to believe it, and it is true. No one can escape their destiny, it has all been set.”

Kumiko sighed and threw her long hair over her shoulders. “You want to know what I believe?”

“Not really.”

Ignoring his statement, the girl went on. “I believe it when you say that your destiny is set.”

“Then why were you fighting with me about it just a second ago?” Neji questioned, really confused by his female teammate.

“Because you think that some all powerful being has set your life for you. I know that you make your own future, one step at a time.”

*****

“Kasai, this is useless! We’re under constant attack and getting nowhere!”

“The plan is almost coming to an end.”

“What do you mean? The plan wasn’t supposed to go like this.”

“A new change in plans, I’m taking control now.”

Kumiko’s glowing green eyes widened as she felt her grip on the control slipping.

“What a… betrayal.”

“Shut up kid, I’m doing this for you.”

That was the last thing Kumiko heard before she once again fell into darkness.

*****

“What’s going on?” Rock Lee gasped, watching as Kumiko slumped from her active form, slowly falling to the ground. Once her body rested on the earth and the demon took control of his now sold body, Akatsuki went at the beast while Lee ran at Kumiko.

“Stay back!” it yelled, using some kind of powerful Jutsu to stop everyone from doing what they were doing. All the Ninja’s were now frozen, not being able to do anything as they watched the demon turn towards the Akatsuki.

“Your punishment shall be to burn in the darkest pits of hell for what you have done. No one causes harm to me or my master.”

Kasai opened his mouth, a fire like portal sucking the group in. None of them could do or say anything, seeing as they were frozen. In only minutes, they were gone and the freezing Jutsu had worn off.

Lee paid no mind to the demon or anyone else, directly running to the immobile Kumiko. The boy scooped her up into his arms and stared at her nonliving body.

“Kumiko… she’s gone.”

“God damn it!” Naruto yelled, his demon side subsiding as he punched a tree. He fell to his knees, fat tears rolling down his face while he shook with sobs.

“No!” TenTen shouted before finding comfort in Neji’s arms. He stroked her back as he looked at his former teammate.

“S-she’s really dead?” Hinata stuttered, her eyes wide. The shy girl had never really known Kumiko personally, but to see the cocky and confident ninja lifeless… it was unnerving.

"How can I help you?" she asked, not being rude, nor polite. The boy with dark glasses stepped forward farther. "I would like to discus something with you," he said plainly while the boy and girl behind him looked at the two worriedly.

"Then go a head and say it. Not that I'm in a hurry," she said, sending him a smirk.

"Plain and simple, why did you help us back in the forest? We know that… that boy is your brother. If you are so loyal to him, why did you not tell him of us?" The read head's smirk grew into a grin.

"The truth? I'm trying to help all you poor Rookies pass this part of the test."

"Why?" the boy with the shivering dog and paint on his face asked. Her grin was thrown in his direction as she spoke.

"Because I want to see what you younglings can do. I want to see if your worth the fun." Her attention was turned to one team as they made their way in. "Here come three more." The other Genin looked to where she was, seeing Ino, Shikamaru and Chouji walk through the door.

"The only reason any of you are here is because of me." They all whipped their heads into Kumiko's direction. "I only hope the other three are coming," she said with a pout, "I was really looking forward to seeing their potential." With that said, the green eyed girl turned her back on them, casually walking away.

“How is that even possible?” Sakura asked eyes wide in disbelief. Kumiko was the strongest Genin kunoichi the pink haired girl had ever met. She couldn’t really be dead; this was just some trick, a Genjutsu. That strong of a girl could not be beaten so easily.

“Kumiko?” Gai questioned, walking towards his two pupils, waiting for her to open her eyes and ask him rudely what he wanted because she was just tired and needed to rest.

“I’m sorry Gai, we tried our best.”

“I know,” the man said, throwing a saddened look over to Kakashi.

“Why did it have to be Kumiko?” Lee asked, his tears falling freely all over the girl under him. “Why did she have to be the demon holder!”

“Yeah, like I don’t take any offense to that,” the demon snuffed, causing everyone to jump. They had all completely forgotten that he was there. How do you ignore a twenty foot tall demon?

“What do you plan to do now that you’re free? Your master is dead, why stick around to see us mourn for her?!” Kasai did not blink as the blonde haired girl yelled at him.

“Free? I will never be free. That girl, that powerful ninja right there is still my master. I can still save her.”

“What are you talking about? That’s impossible,” Gai stated, though he wished it as true.

“For Kumiko to live, someone else’s life would have to be taken, and the right Jutsu would have to be prepared.”

“I am the all powerful Eleven Tailed Fire Wolf. Bringing back one simple human is something that requires no energy what so ever.”

Before anyone could question the demon’s words, Kasai turned back into his chakra self, feeling like wind as he was slowly sucked back into Kumiko’s body.

“For you, my master.”

Once he was completely gone, everyone looked at Kumiko, scared of what the result could be. Lee was hopeful, his eyes glued to the red haired girl under him. When she didn’t move, he sighed and looked away, not wanting to cry once again.

“Would you like me to go ahead and inform the Hokage what has happened?” one of the Jounin’s asked his face blank.

“That would be a good idea. Tell her to start preparing-“

Kakashi was cut off my a large gulp of air, coming from Kumiko’s form as she breathed in air through her lungs. Her once green eyes were now a glowing yellow, her pupil’s permanently in the shape of a slit.

The girl groan and wiped her face. “Why is my face all wet and… it tastes salty!”

“Kumiko!” Lee yelled, hugging her closely to his chest before parting with her enough to give her a kiss. Once they parted, all the Genin rushed up to her, their arms around each other as they gave her a group hug. Kumiko was in shock at what she was seeing. People like Sasuke, Shino, Neji, and Shikamaru showing sentimental emotions towards her.

“Can I ask just what is going on? How the hell am I still alive? And where is Kasai?”

“He said that he could save you. He went back into your body, don’t you feel him?”

Kumiko placed a hand over her chest, concentrating and trying to find Kasai, even just a small sliver. But there was nothing.

“I can’t feel him…”

“Even a powerful demon like him cannot bring her back without sacrificing himself.”

“Kasai…”

“Don’t you ever scare me like that again, you understand?!” Lee shouted, glaring daggers at the woman he was holding. Her new glowing eyes stared at him, a guilty look in them.

“Sorry for worrying you. All of you.”

*****

“And that’s the story of my ninja life!”

“Wow Mom, you and Dad are so cool!”

“Your life was really interesting Mom. Are you sure you didn’t make any of that stuff up?”

Kumiko laughed at her kids and ruffled their hair. Amie giggled and Airo pouted at his mother.

“Mom, you messed up my hair!” the boy whined, trying to get his messy red hair under control. His black eyes glared playfully at his mother.

“You’re so dramatic Airo, seriously,” the boy’s sister said. She flipped her long black hair over her shoulders and her blue green eyes stared into her brother’s darker ones.

“Okay, okay. Time to go to bed you two.”

“Can’t we have another story?”

“Are you crazy? The story of my life, which took two hours or so by the way, wasn’t enough for you?”

“No.”

Kumiko stared at the children and was about to speak when her husband walked through the door.

“No more stories, you’ve stolen my wife from me long enough kids. It’s time to sleep.”

“Aw… okay Dad. Goodnight Mom!”

The two closed their eyes and seemed to be asleep instantly. Kumiko smiled and almost yelped when she felt someone tugging at her hips. She fell back into Lee’s arms, a blush plastered on her cheeks as she looked up at his handsome and grown face.

Without saying a word, the man kissed her sweetly. “I love you Kumiko.”

“I love you too Lee.”

“Come on, it’s time for us to go to bed as well.”

“I’ll be there in a minute, just let me tuck them into bed.”

Lee nodded his head and walked out of the room. The red haired woman sighed and kissed the heads of each child.

She was about to get up from her spot on the bed when a large shadow on the wall caught her attention. Eleven tails moved slowly on the wall, seeming to take up the whole room. The thing that caught her attention the most, though, was the glowing yellow eyes.

“Such beautiful children Kumiko.”

“Kasai…”
