You’re Just A Sad Song With Nothing To Say

The beast went to walk towards Lee when it stopped, seeming conflicted.

“Are you crazy? Don’t go near the boy. We have to take care of the Akatsuki before we’re out of the danger zone,” Kasai sent through to Kumiko.

“I just wanted to say goodbye…”

As the two were talking to each other, Deidara sent one of his explosive creations at the beast’s head, causing it to howl in pain then turn towards them and growl.

“Alright, I got it. Stay focused.”

Kasai swiped at them, Kumiko mimicking the move with her body. They all jumped out of them way and started to throw weapons at them.

“Group one, take care of the Akatsuki, group to, the right side. You guys with me as we attack straight ahead.”

“What about us?” Naruto asked. Kakashi looked at the large group of Genin, especially Sasuke who was looking at his older brother.

“I want you all to stay here and throw whatever long distance Jutsus you know. Naruto, send your clones at them. Shikamaru, try to catch one of them in your Shadow technique.”

“Hai!”

“What about me? All I know is Taijutsu?”

“I’m sorry Lee, you just have to sit there. Please don’t argue.”

Before he actually could, the older man jumped away and started to battle alone with his teammates.

Kasai breathed in deep, then exhaled fire, trying to engulf Akatsuki only, but everyone just put up some kind of shield.

“This isn’t going to work. Those stupid ninjas are in the way.”

Kumiko looked around, noticing that no one was attacking them, seeing as the Akatsuki were too preoccupied with the people they were battling.

“Kasai… they aren’t paying attention to you. Do you think that you’ll have the time to get away?”

“… I’d have to have someone keep them from getting to me when I left your body.”

Kumiko nodded. “I have an idea. I’ll perform a Jutsu to block them off, and once the handsigns have been done, leave immediately and run away.”

Kasai was quiet for a moment. “Staying with you wasn’t bad kid. Even if I was locked up.”

Kumiko smiled. “Goodbye Kasai.”

“Goodbye Kumiko-Sama.”

Kumiko gathered all the Chakra inside of her, and while she did that, she felt herself slipping farther away. Even as this happened, she continued to smile and completed the Jutsu.

“Fire Wall Jutsu! Go Kasai!”

Just as his former master had demanded, he gathered all of his Chakra, turning into a solid being, and ran off. The farther he ran, the smaller he got in size until he was just an abnormal eleven tailed wolf lost in the woods.

Kumiko’s body fell towards the ground, her eyes still growing green, and it didn’t take long before she fell to the ground. Seeing this all happen, Lee ditched his crutch and ran to the falling girl, catching her in his arms but falling down.

When the Akatsuki knew that the demon was gone, they all disappeared into the woods, maybe to search for the wandering demon.

When they were safe from attack, everyone rushed over to the girl.

Kumiko’s glowing green eyes faded back to their original color and she looked up at the boy over her. “Hey Lee.”

“Oh thank god, you’re alright.”

She hated to kill his dreams, but Kumiko shook her head in disagreement. “No Lee, I’m not alright Lee. I’m slipping away.”

“Then we’ll just rush you to Tsunade, she healed me, she can heal you!”

Kumiko smiled and stroked Lee’s face. She then used the last of her bodily power to lean up and kiss the boy for the last time. She fell limp in his arms, and her last breath left her lung, and she sighed out “I love you.”

“Kumiko… Oh, Kumiko.”

Lee’s head rested against the red head’s, and his tears fell against her face. “I love you too Kumiko. I love you so much.”

“I’ll carry her back-“

“No… I can do it,” Lee said, ignoring Gai’s outstretched arms. He turned his back on them all and walked away, not even seeming injured. Not injured on the outside maybe…

Kumiko's long red hair shined in the light of the sun and she smiled at herself. When she got herself ready into her clothes, she walked down the stairs and was met with Konohamaru in her face.

"What can I do for you?" she asked him in her calm and bored voice.

"I challenge you to a battle of the Ninjas!" Kumiko just flicked her teal gaze down to him, and he wavered a bit.

"Konohamaru, I'm almost a Ninja myself, I don't have time to play 'Ninja' with you," his face dropped slightly, "But I will show you some of my training, okay?" His face instantly brightened with that grin of his before it was lost in her shirt as he hugged her.

Konohamaru stood there at the funeral for Kumiko, wiping away the tears that had fallen down his face. He didn’t cry like a baby. Kumiko had told him to be stronger than that. He laid his white carnation on her coffin and walked back to his place.

“How are you doing Kiddo?” Naruto asked, his eyes filled with tears as well.

“Pretty good, considering.”

“Yeah, very true. I’m really sorry about not being able to bring her back.”

“It’s okay,” the boy replied, holding onto the older boy’s hand, “You did the best you could and Kumiko would be proud.

The two watched as the rest of the large gathering placed their carnations onto the coffin, paying their respects to Kumiko.

Tsunade stepped up, telling herself in her mind that she wouldn’t cry.

“Stupid kid… why would I cry over you? You were nothing special.” The older woman couldn’t help letting the tears fall and smiling. She touched the wood of the casket before placing her flower on top of the others.

“We’ll miss you Kumiko.”

The last person to go up, of course, was Rock Lee. Ever since be brought the young girl back home, he didn’t need the crutch anymore. He seemed perfectly normal. But his attitude wasn’t the normal happy one.

“I can’t take that he’s gone. He was the only thing that I had left. He
protected me when I was younger; I was supposed to protect him when he got
older. And I failed. I let Orochimaru kill him. I wasn’t strong enough to
protect someone important to me. Now, I’m all alone. He left me alone!”

“You’re not alone. Because you will always have me,” he whispered in her ear,
“Because I love you.”

Once again, Kumiko’s eyes open wide as she heard his confession and her tears
slowly stopped. She lifted her head to look up at the boy who was holding her.
His eyes bore into hers and his smile was relaxed.

“Lee…”

His bent his head down to connect his lips with hers and they stayed like that
for a long time.

“I love you too, Lee.”

Lee walked up to the flower covered casket strongly, no tears escaping his eyes.

“You must be so ashamed of me, not being able to be a ninja anymore.”

“What? What are you talking about? Lee…”

She placed her hand on his cheek and they locked eyes once again. “I could never be ashamed of you. I’ve been proud of you since the beginning. You are the best Ninja in the world in my eyes. No injuries could stop me from thinking that.”

Lee pressed his hand over Kumiko’s and smiled at her. She did the same and bent down to give him a light kiss. She only rose an inch or so away when she looked at him.

“I love you Lee.”

“I love you too Kumiko.”

When the early morning sun shone down, it revealed the scene of two teenagers snuggled together as they slept, their hands intertwined as they dreamed of themselves together forever.

He looked at the smiling picture of Kumiko on top of the coffin and noted that that flimsy picture did no good to show her complete beauty.

He laid his flower at the top of all the others, kissed his hand, then laid it on the wood.

“I love you Kumiko. Always have and always will. Thanks for fixing this broken toy.”

He turned around, wiping his running eyes, but it did no help. He threw one last look at the casket, and smiled at the red lotus flower that seemed to brighten the gloom.
