"I Love You" In Every Language

Daisy

Frank walked to his car, in deep thought.

“What a night, man.” He said to himself.

He had just turned on the engine when he saw a couple walking quickly away. It looked like the man was running after the woman. And so it was.

“Daisy! Daisy, wait!” He grabbed her wrist and forced her to turn around. They didn’t see Frank staring.

“You fucking… what the hell, you really thought we were going to church or something? It ain’t Christmas.” The man said in a low, dangerous voice.

“You’re just a pig!” said the lady. “How dare you! How dare you?! So much for trusting people!”

She slapped him hard in the face and Frank just stood there wide-eyed.

“What the fuck!” growled the man, and slapped her back. The lady stumbled backwards.

“Hey, hey, hey!” yelled Frank. He couldn’t stand seeing men treating women so badly.

“Don’t hit each other! If you really want to get hit, there’s room number 20 for that!” He said, more to himself than to the couple.

“You mind your own fucking business!” the man yelled back.

“Don’t tell me to m-mind my own f-fucking business…” he trailed off when he saw the man coming towards him.

“Where are you going, now?! Jack!” asked the lady behind him, still touching the cheek he had hit.

“Here we go,” thought Frank, “he’ll beat me up, I just know.”

Unfortunately for Frank, the man called Jack was taller than him. Well, nearly everybody was taller than him, but this man was just unbelievably tall.

“Watch out, I can do kung-fu.” Frank lied, but threatened him anyway, hoping this was enough to stop the giant guy from beating him up.

“You motherfucker.” Said Jack, and slapped Frank so hard he fell to the floor. Frank thought more was to come, but when he got up the man was walking away.

“Oh, so you’re running away, huh?” he said, trying to look cool in front of Daisy, but secretly jumping up and down out of relief on the inside.

“What are you doing? You asshole! You don’t even know him! Go away!” Daisy yelled after Jack, and walked over to where Frank was. Jack flipped her off, only to get a ‘fuck you’ back from Daisy.

“Hey, hey, wait. Stop.” Frank whispered, “I don’t want him to come back and hit the both of us.” He added what he hoped was a relaxed smile, but the guy had really scared the shit out of him.

Daisy kept insulting him and Frank just nodded at whatever she was saying. She was a beautiful woman. She had long, wavy, light brown hair, green eyes and a Spanish accent. She wasn’t thin nor fat, she was just right, and of course, taller than him.

“You say you agree, but what were you doing here?” she asked suddenly.

He didn’t say anything for a moment, because he saw his ex-wife walking out of that place, but then he decided he didn’t care.

“Me? Oh, nothing, I’m just a driver, and by the way it’s the first time I drive here, so…”

Daisy was just about to smile, but Frank’s ex-wife choose that moment to say “Bye, Frank!”. Daisy glared at him.

“Goodbye, Ma’am, I’ll see you tomorrow, I’ll drive you to church!” He turned again to face Daisy, “she’s a good lady, very religious…”

Daisy smiled when she got the joke that was meant to cover Frank’s embarrassment.

10 minutes later they were both in the car, Frank had decided he’d drive Daisy home.

“Hear, hear, hear… say it again? Wife swapping?” Frank pretended not to know what happens in that disgusting place.

“Yeah, wife swapping. I’m not even married to that jerk.”

“Ewww, so that means my friend is a pervert, too… I told you I just drove him there, then I went away.” He looked quickly beside him to meet her suspicious eyes. He looked just as quickly back in front of him.

“He flirted with me for 2 months!” she went on, “Text messages, flowers, he even wanted to introduce me to his mother. We went out, like, 3 times. And the 4th, where does he bring me? To a stupid, twisted, perverted sex party! What was he thinking?”

While she was nearly yelling away her frustration, Frank just nodded again and again. When they stopped at the red light, he turned to look at her again. She was still talking.

“I really want to know who does he think I am!”

A guy on a motorbike stopped beside them and looked at the lady shouting at a stunned-looking Frank: “Because I want to know, do I look like a whore? Do you think I look like a whore? Tell me!”

Frank noticed the guy staring, he glared at him and the guy looked at the short and tight black dress she was wearing and nodded, as to say “yes, she is a whore”

The light turned green and Frank drove away quickly from the weird guy. Daisy didn’t notice him, luckily, because she was still talking.

“That dirty hypocrite, he was acting all lovey.”

Frank looked in the rear view mirror if the guy had taken their same direction.

“But I ain’t born yesterday, I know how men think… Well, maybe I shouldn’t have put this dress on. But anyways, we’re adults, say things clear and straight to my face, why did you brought me here?” Frank just kept nodding and nodding, with a few right and yes here and there.

They stopped at another red light. “I mean, you do have the guts to tell me!” she said, like she was talking to Jack again.

Oh shit, here comes the weird guy. thought Frank, and just as he finished thinking that, the guy driving the motorbike stopped again beside them, just as Daisy was saying: “You just want to fuck? Tell me, do you just want to fuck me? Answer me!”

The guy looked at Frank with a wide smile on his face. He winked at Frank and mouthed “Go on! C’mon!”.

Frank mouthed back: “What do you want?”. He thought: “oh, go to hell!” and drove away.

“Hey, the light’s still red!” Daisy shouted.

“Yeah, I know, but it’s late, there’s no one around.” Frank said.

“Look,” she started again. Frank rolled his eyes. “If I didn’t trust men before, after tonight I swear I’m going to be a nun. Oh, it’s my place. This one.” She pointed to a white house with a pretty front garden. Thank God, thought Frank. As beautiful as she is, she really talked too much.

“And anyway, the truth is, all of you men are just a bunch of animal instincts that come from that thing you have between your legs! You all think you’re smart but you’ve got the brain of a sheep.”

Frank felt a little frustrated and sad at this words. He had no chance with this woman, he just knew.

“No, worse than that. Even worse.” She said as she looked at him and he just stared back helplessly. Her angry expression was replaced by a smile.

“Well, I’m sorry I had to put this all out on you.” She said getting out of the car. Frank followed her. “What a night, what a night…” she grabbed her keys.

“Do you…” Frank started. C’mon, ask her out, it’s now or never! “Do you want to go for a drink? Maybe, some other time?” But Daisy was too busy opening her front door, and she didn’t hear him. She turned suddenly around to face him again.

“Well, thanks a lot for the lift. And sorry again for the little outburst I had.”

“It’s ok, don’t worry. After all it was a nice night out, apart from… the guy, and…” Frank, what’s happening to you? Get a grip on yourself!

He stretched out a hand for her to shake, but the moment he did, she bent down to pick up the keys that had just fallen from her hands. It’s just not my night, Frank thought.

“Anyways, I had a good time, I’ll… see you around.” Frank said, and she smiled at him again.

“Yeah, definitely. And thank you again. Bye.” She got inside and was about to close the door. I can’t lose this opportunity, Frank yelled at himself, so she called her back.

“Hey, Daisy!”

“Yes?”

“I know a good restaurant… if you want to go there some other time, I can give you my phone number, if you want… you can call me and we can arrange something…” he finally said.

She looked at him for a moment, in deep thought. Then she spoke. “Er… right, you call me: 338-99 51 10.”

She had said that so suddenly that Frank nearly couldn’t believe she said yes, and of course he forgot the number as soon as she finished telling him.

“Goodnight!” she said, and closed the door.

“G’night.” He said under his breath, walking back to his car and trying to fix her number in his memory. He got his cell phone out of his pocket and dialled: “Alright, let’s see, 338… 99…”

He scratched his forehead, trying to remember. “338… 99… 51…”

“Hey, dude.” A guy said. Frank looked up to see one of those guys who walk around the city selling roses. “Oh, no.” He said.

“Don’t say no.” The man spoke fast, “12 roses are 10 bucks, 6 are 5, 3 just 2.”

Frank looked away from his cell phone, desperate to remember Daisy’s phone number. They stared at each other for a second, then Frank said “Eh?”

“12 roses are 10 bucks, 6 are 5, 3 just 2.”

“Hey, hey, hey, dude, shut up for a second, I need to concentrate here.” said Frank. “338… 99…”

“12 for 10,”

“…51…”

“6 for 5, 3 just 2”.

“I told you to shut up.” Frank begged. “Please, I need to concentrate, I told you to shut up for a second, c’mon, dude, please.” He went back to his cell phone. “So… 99…”

“Just 6, just tonight they’re for 5.”

“338…” Frank raised his voice. “99… 51”

“6 for 5, 3 for 2.”

“You see, now I forgot it!” Frank yelled. “What do you want from me? I told you to shut up, and go away.” He closed his eyes, thinking.

“Why you treat me bad? I need money.” The man said. “I haven’t sold a rose since 10.”

“10!” Frank yelled. “Oh thank you, man! 338-9951 10!” He hugged the man and bought all the roses he had, before driving away with a smile on his face.
