Madison stepped out of the warm airport terminal and put her bags down. She had just flown to New York from Brazil, and she was relieved to finally be in a place where people spoke English.
Madison was twenty two, and had recently finished university, so she had decided to travel the world. She lived in France, and from there had been to China, India, Africa, and Brazil. She had spent three months in each place, and New York was the last place she was visiting before returning home.
"Taxi!" She cried. A yellow taxi drove right past her without stopping. She rolled her eyes and hailed another cab. This time one stopped and the driver got out. He studied Madison carefully before stepping forwards to help her with her bags. It had to be said, she was a beautiful girl. She had long, shiny black hair, with side swept bangs that covered her left eye. Her hair had a lot of different colored streaks in it, and she had snakebite piercings in her bottom lip. However, the thing that drew people towards Madison was her eyes. They were a bright, clear blue, and always had a sparkle in them. Madison had a habit of outlining them heavily in black eyeliner, which made them even more attractive.
She pulled her phone out of her pocket and called her mother to tell her that she had arrived safely, talking in fluent French. She ended the call, replaced her phone in her pocket and sat in the backseat of the taxi. She offered a smile to the driver, who then returned the smile and drove onto the road.
"So, I'm guessing you're French." He said looking Madison in the eyes via the rear view mirror.
"Half French, half American." She replied.
"Are you coming home, or just visiting?"
"Visiting. I've taken a gap year, and I wanted to see the world. I'm twenty, so I thought, get that over and done with while I'm young. France is home for me."
"I don't think I asked, what's your name sweetie?" The driver said.
"It's Madison. Madi." She replied. "What's yours?"
"I'm Robert." The driver replied. He seemed to be a very nice man. He couldn't have been much older than Madison, around his mid twenties, and he had dark brown hair that matched his eyes.
"Where you going Madi?" Robert asked. Madison told him the address and he turned right.
"Ever heard anything about that place?" She asked, referring to the apartment block she would be staying in.
"As a matter of fact I have. It's full of people your age, the apartment you'll be staying in already has two tenants in it. One of them is my best friend actually, his name is Jeremy. You'll have to call him Jay though, he gets kinda pissed if anyone calls him Jeremy." Robert said. Madison laughed. "The other girl in there is Bel, his sister. I think she's the same age as you. She's a great girl, you'll love her."
Madison and Robert carried on chatting for the remainder of the journey until the car stopped in front of a large apartment block and Robert stepped out of the car.
"This is you." Robert said.
"Thanks. How much do I owe you?" Madison replied, pulling money out of her pocket while he got her bags from the trunk.
"No, no, this one's on me, just don't let my boss find out. But only on one condition."
"And what would that be?" Madison asked, smiling.
"If I give you my number, you'll call me if you ever need help finding your way around the city." Robert said, holding out a strip of paper with a phone number written on it. Madison took the paper from his hands and laughed.
"I'll be sure to call." She said.
"Right. Good. I guess I'll see you around then, Madi." He said.
"You will." Madison replied, then leaned forwards and placed a quick kiss on Robert's cheek.
"Bye." They said in unison, then Madison turned and made her way to the door of the building, unaware of Robert's eyes following her every step of the way. She pressed the button that read Menalor and waited for a voice to come through the intercom. After a second or two it crackled and a voice spoke.
"Hello?" Said a woman.
"Hi, I'm Madison Jade, I'm renting a room in your apartment." Madison said, leaning close so she could be heard.
"Ok, come right up." The woman chirped. The door buzzed open and Madison walked through it and took the elevator up to the fifth floor.
I'm really pleased with this story so far.
I've written quite a lot of it, so I doubt that it'll be too long before I post the next chapter.
Anyways, hope you liked it. =)
