Stellar Major!

Welcome Aboard Wyndom

It was now Monday morning, the day Wyndom is suppose to arrive. I awoke at 07:00 like any other day and went to school like any other day. But after school is when I found out that Plank has scrubbed my Mother into being Wyndom’s tour guide while he’s up here on the spay-stay. I guess it could be worse, couldn’t it?

I worked hard to ease my mind in history committee but I just don’t think it was coming easy. By dinner, I noticed my Mom wasn’t there so I was guessing Wyndom was finally here. I ate in peace other than the occasional chatter from across the table from Cerulean or her mother, Amulet. Talking to them eased my mind as well, a bit. As I was leaving the cafeteria to go back to my room, I bumped right into my Mom.

“S-sorry Mom,”

I laughed softly, as did she.

“Phoenix, this is Mr. Wyndom and his assistant, Mr. Lutz.”

“Oh wow, it’s an honor.”

I shook both of their hands.

“A nice girl you have here, Dawn.”

Complimented Wyndom,

“Thank you sir.”

She said a little too bubbly.

“I just want to say thanks for letting us live up for the last ten years. I know it’s a rare opportunity to be able to do so.”

I smiled and shook his hand again.

“Well, it’s my pleasure.”

I’m sure it is, I mumbled in my head. Something seemed off about him, but I shrugged it off and smiled, continuing on my way back to our homing module. It wasn’t long until I got a call on my zap-pad from Zenon.

“Have you met him yet?”

“Yeah, my Mom’s his tour guide,”

I said a little flatly, just not caring now that I had been so worked up about it earlier. The man seemed nice.

“He’s inking me out. Did you notice the blinking thing? I think he lies when he blinks a lot.”

“Zenon. Do us all a favor. Don’t get too suspicious. For Orion’s sakes.”

I shook my head.

“Phoenix, I really think this dude is gonna cause something terrible up here.” “You always think that when we have visitors. Has it happened yet?”

“No…”

“Exactly so quit worrying.”

I shrugged and turned off the zap-pad for now. I had lots of homework to continue. I turned on the television and started listening to this program called Spongebob. It was fairly funny I suppose. I did my English homework and then my algebra homework. By this time it was getting close to 21:00, Mom came in at that time.

“Long day?”

I asked as I was sitting on the couch.

“Too long.”

“Zenon’s inked out by Wyndom.”

“When is she not inked out by someone?”

My mother asked and I cackled, nodding.

“That’s what I said. But she seems so sure about this guy.”

“Well, I’ll keep my eye on him or something but that’s the best I can do.”

“I know. Knowing Zenon she’ll be taking authority into her own hands. Getting herself into trouble.”

I sighed, I knew her like the back of my hand.

“He’s not going to be up here long I don’t think. I believe he’s going to jet back to Earth this Saturday?”

“Eh…not as long as I thought he’d be here. I was expecting like a month.”

“As was I. But he seems impressed with all of this.”

“What about his assistant Mr. Lutz?”

I asked, since she’d been around him all day as well.

“It was his first time in space, or so Mr. Wyndom said.. I don’t think he was too enthused because he’s afraid of being up here. Then again, I could have totally miss read him.”

Which happened sometimes but Mom was really good at snooping people out. Thanks to taking psychology in college.

“Did you eat tonight?”

“No, I thought I’d just fix something quick in here before bed.”

I nodded a little.

“Well, I did my homework and now I have no idea what to do.”

“We could make something together.”

I thought about it and shrugged,

“Sure thing.”

I got up off the couch and started helping Mom cook her own dinner. I had no idea what we were even making, I just kept taking directions from her. Before long, we had a green bean casserole. I’d never fixed something like that before. I didn’t know we even could up here but apparently so. It tasted delicious.

I bunked with Mom again tonight, she was in a very good mood to just lay and talk for an hour or so. Tuesday came too soon for me but it went fairly normal. That was until dinner came. Zenon rushed over to my table and sat down beside me.

“So I did a little spying last night,”

“Zenon,”

I rolled my eyes.

“Anyway.”

She muttered like she’d been interrupted.

“I caught Lutz trying to use the computers in the main memory bank.”

I raised a brow at this.

“What the hell would he want with those?”

“My question exactly. Said he was trying to get stock readings for Wyndom but, I mean obviously your Mother showed him the computer lab.”

“I’m certain she did…that is a little inky.”

I admitted.

“I’m going to do some more spy---,”

I cut her off.

“No you won’t. If he wants into the memory bank, he’ll get caught doing it. We don’t have security for nothing Zenon.”

“But, but…”

“No buts. I’m sick of this. Every time someone new comes up here they’re this, or that to you.”

“Ugh, why won’t no one believe me.”

“Cause you lie, a lot.”

I admitted, shrugging.

“Zenon it’s not the fact I don’t believe you. You’re my friend. I just don’t want you to get yourself into trouble. You’ve been doing good lately.”

“I know, I know…That’s what my Dad said.”

“He’s wise.”

“I know he is… I just, can’t help this feeling.”

“I have the feeling at times too when I’m around him but he seems nice enough. Hell, he was talking to Leo about comic books, who the hell else would do that?!”

“I guess you’re right,”

she admitted in defeat and got up, walking back over to sit with Nebula. Mom finally came in, relieved of her Wyndom duties once more and ate with me tonight. I told her more about Zenon’s inky feeling and how she’d caught Lutz at the memory bank last night. Mom said that surprised her, but then again…as she shivered, said it didn’t.

I had no homework tonight thankfully and it was a Tuesday so no committee. I did however need to brain storm for an upcoming paper I needed to write but I was good at writing so that didn’t worry me at all. Tonight was pretty much just a lazy night in front of the television watching Earth program after program. It felt kind of nice though. Mom was on her laptop, emailing Aunt Ginny.

“How’s she doing?”

I asked.

“Marvelous, she said. But I don’t know if that’s just one of her lies not to make me worry or not.”

“Ah chill I’m sure she’s great.”

“You’re right Phoenix.”

Mom nodded and would smile. For some reason I was good at relieving her of doubt. I’m glad I could do that so easily cause it took everything she could muster to get me from being doubtful or pessimistic. It’s in my nature. I guess I acquire it from my father…ugh.

“I think I’m going to hit the hay early tonight Mom. I’m not exactly feeling all too well, headache.”

“Aw, I’m sorry sweetheart. Maybe those new people on board brought up a cold.”

“I sure hope not. That’d be a pandemic up here.”

We both laughed. It had happened before, where a younger kid with a lesser immune system would get sick due to new people being on board. It didn’t really happen to the adults, or the older kids like me, or someone older, like Rush Kismet. But sometimes…anything was possible.

I took a couple headache pills and went on to bed at about 22:30. I was actually looking forward to history committee tomorrow afternoon. I set up my Zap-Pad to wake me up at 07:00 like I always did, fluffed my pillow, got into pajamas and went to sleep.

I have to admit, going to bed early sure did make me feel better when 07:00 came. But I still had a slight headache so before I left for breakfast this fine Wednesday morning, I took another head pill. I ate light things but enough to fill me up. Cerulean came over and sighed,

“You look a little sick P.”

“I know. I think I’ve picked something up off those new people. But it’s fine. I’m medicating myself so it’ll go away.”

“I hope so!”

She gave me a hug. I hoped I didn’t make her sick. I didn’t see Zenon anywhere though. I wondered why.

“Have you seen Zenon?”

I asked Nebula when she walked back, she shook her head.

“Not since like dinner last night.”

“Alright, thanks.”

I hoped she hadn’t gotten herself into way over her head, but she probably had. I was surprised to see her though, sitting in school when I got there. She had a very, very long face upon her.

“What’s wrong?”

I asked, sitting down beside her, Cerulean sitting next to me.

“I’m grounded.”

“Ah well, it’ll be over in a few days.”

“No. Phoenix. I’ve been, grounded.”

My eyes opened wide.

“N-no kidding?”

“Yeah. I got caught last night spying on Lutz in the main memory bank. He inserted some disk into our machine and then punched something in and took out the disc and left…I had the code written on my hand and when I went to get out...it wasn’t there any more, I was sweating in there.”

“Wow… Maybe he is up to something.”

“Whatever it is, I’m not going to be up here to find out. I have to go to Earth and stay with my Aunt Judy. Mom’s sister. She lives in Los Angeles.”

“So does my Aunt Ginny. Maybe we could go to Earth together…so you’re not alone?”

“You’d really go down there with me…?”

“Sure, how long are you suppose to be down there?”

“A whole month but I am not missing Proto-zoa up here.”

“I’ll make sure you won’t miss him. I’ll go with you. Two and a half weeks isn’t going to kill us down there I hope.”

“I hope too P…I haven’t been there since I was five.”

“I haven’t since I was three. Trust me, you remember more of Earth than I do.”

“I guess so,”

Zenon shrugged as school was starting. I went to history committee right after and then I went down to our parents work.

“I’d like to go to Earth with Zenon.”

I said firmly to both her parents and my Mother.

“Why would you want to do that Phoenix?”

“Well. It’s punishment enough that you’re grounding Zenon and I fully understand why. But, if it was my Mother, if I wanted a friend while I was down there, she’d make Cerulean go…so since I’m up for the job, let me go down with her.”

“Where will you stay?”

Her mother asked.

“My Aunt Ginny’s. How big LA possibly be?”

“Huge. You can stay with Judy if you want, so can your Aunt, she won’t mind. She’s a lonely woman.”

“well sure, I’ll talk to my sister about that.”

My Mom said. She then looked to me,

“Are you sure?”

“Of course. Zenon and I will get the full experience of Earth. I haven’t been in ten years…I’m sure there will be something there worth being there for.”
