Crash

They sat there, the loud noise blaring over their conversation.
“Shane!” The dark, olive colored woman beside him, shouted over the music. Her demeanor taking on that of a sister, but also a friend. Her face contorting, as the speakers blared in her ears.
“What!” Shane shouted back, smiling warmly.
“We need to get going. Kryris is going to be fucking pissed that we went without her.”
“Oh, Okay.” Shane said. He wasn't stupid enough to argue with his sister for lack of a better word.
Lights flashed by as Shane sped down the Oklahoma highway. Jeri was laying down, her seat thrown back and her feet resting on the dash. Oh how simple things used to be. Shane thought to himself. His medium length, chocolate brown hair blew in the wind stinging his eyes, in his midnight black mustang convertible
“Shane,” Jerika said, taking her feet from the dashboard. “we need to hurry. Kyr is going to be pissed, and frankly I don't want a burning pissed off Kyris on our hands!” she said, a childish grin enveloping her face. Shane let out a laugh, imaging the thick flaming locks, and the barrage of freckles that lined Kryris 's face. Imaging the short but all too deadly gremlin, beating him in the head with a rubber duck. He knew that that felt like. He could almost still feel the lump on the side of his head, that was caused by that small quaking toy of death.
“Yeah, neither do I.” Shane said, pulling himself out of his day dream. Turning to see the thin scar across Jeri's temple, remembering whom had caused it.

The dim room held a romantic glow. The candle causing the two shadows to dance.
“Mason, so how is your life right now?” asked a skinny, blond man with shimmering brown eyes. The other man let his eyes trace the blonds body, taking him in.
“Pretty damn good at the moment, Marco.” Mason replied, placing a single kiss on his lovers forehead.
“So your not mad about not going to the club with Jeri and Shane?” Marco asked.
“Nah. They will be fine with out us....as long as they get home before Kyr.” Mason laughed. “You know how she gets Marco.
“Yeah I do. All fear Kyris . Gremlin of Terror and what not.” Marco said, pantomiming a Godzilla impression. Mason exploded into laughter.
“Now Marco, how is your life at the moment?” Mason asked. Marco smiled playfully.
“Amazing.”

The highway was long behind them now. The busy street lights, fading into trees and hills. Jeri now lay there asleep, her hair flowing behind her like a cloak. Shane looked at her, remembering the pain she had felt...the pain he knew she was still feeling.
The road curved up ahead to the right. Shane popped his clutch, feeling the car pull with the power, as he drifted around the curve. Whew-who. He screamed in his head. He rounded another curve, and as the last, drifted around it. He could sense that something was wrong, but as he always did. He disregarded it. He made the final left turn on too his road. The thick willow trees, draping across the roadway, giving it a ominous appearance.
The road slithered down a mile and a half stretch of asphalt. Shane watched closely at the sides of the forest paths on either side of him. He turned right, now turning at the halfway point. He accelerated, slamming his foot against the pedal. Wow I love how Jeri is always asleep when, when I decide to be reckless. He thought.
He speed down the last stretch, watching as the trees zoomed past the car. The outside air slowly becoming sultry, choking him. The gravel road throwing dust and rocks into the mustang. He slowed his speed, pressing the roof button allowing the canopy to seal over head.
Shane glanced one last time at Jeri. Her peaceful slumber bringing a traitorous tear to his eye. He turned back, his eyes beginning to cloud with the many tears hiding behind them. He could barely see through these fogged lenses, but he could see well enough to swerve. Trying desperately to avoid the human standing in the road.
His car spun, the tires failing to grasp the gravel on the road. Shane counter turned, slamming his weight into forcing the car to the right. The car veered, but smashed into one of the giant willows that lined the road. His head colliding with the steering column.
He felt the hot fluid seep down his face. He groaned as he tried to focus his eyes. He looked to his right, and saw Jeri laying in a fiberglass coffin, a thin trail of blood gliding down her leg.
“Jeri! Jeri!” Shane screamed, nudging her slightly. He placed his hands on her shoulders and shook. He heard her let out a muffled moan, and he sighed in relief.
“Sh- Shan?” the Jeri asked, her voice cracking as she spat blood out of her mouth.
“Yes! Jeri its me, hold on. I'll get you out!” He said excitedly, exiting the car. He saw the destruction to the car. “Dammit!” He yelled in the night, but he ignored it, Jeri was more important. He made his way to the other side, and began to pry at her door. He opened it and saw the two large bars jutting out of the side holding her in place. He pulled against the smallest of the two and despite it being metal it bent quite easily. Now his sights were set on the larger one. He heaved backward pulling at the bar, but to no avail. It wouldn't budge. He looked at her, she had fallen back asleep. Her face still holding the same serene facade he knew was just a cover up. She doesn't need this, not now. Not after everything he put her through. He thought, yelling at himself in his head.
Letting his new emotions fuel him, he tried again. But made the same result. Shane roared in anguish, trying to force the rod off of her. He could feel it now, the new presence in his mind, like a second pair of hands helping to pry the bar off. He could nearly see every atom in the rod scruying around, causing the bar to bend and shift. Pulling again the rod finally gave, bending much more then it should have.
Scooping her out he saw the cause of the blood, one final rod had jutted into her leg. He grabbed it and pulled and quickly placed, his coat from the back seat onto it to add pressure. He collapsed on the ground. Pulling her out had exhausted him. “Wow, I guess the thing about accidents being one mile from home is true.” he said to no one.
The willows waved in the wind, as he saw a faint light in the distance. The somber forest, casting only the moonlight. Yet this light was beaming, bright and strong. Shane shielded his eyes at it grew closer, standing and placing himself between Jeri and the light. The light continued to grow closer, and closer. It was on him now, facing him. This floating orb of light seemed to acknowledge him, and in a shining explosion the mere orb engulfed the forest in light. The light slowly faded back into darkness with only the faint moonlight returning to shine on the forest. Shane could finally see again as the light dimmed more and more, revealing a human figure. Long brown hair and a white t shirt with black jeans. He could tell by her features she was a girl. Shane looked on in amazement.
“Hello.” she said. “I am Alyssa.”

Mason was silent as Marco slept, his head resting against his chest. He smiled as he watched how every breath made his face rise and fall. The room was still fixed with the same golden, candlelit glow. How could this get any better? Mason thought. Marco sighed, almost as if responding to Mason's silent question. Mason weaved his hands into Marco's hair. The short blond locks shimmering against the candle light.
Mason glanced to his nightstand and picked up his phone. I wonder why they haven't called yet. He thought.

“Hello!” She said again. “I said I am Alyssa. Can't you hear me?” The girl asked. Shane was still in shock. This girl had just exploded from....Light. “Yeah, I hear you. How did you?” The girl looked at him and smiled. “You might want to get that car fixed.” And as quickly as she had appeared she was gone. Leaving Shane, Jerika and the now fucked up mustang alone in the wood side road. Shane heard a nestling on the ground and looked to see Jerika coming to.
“What the fuck happened?” She asked.
“I don't have time to explain.” Shane said, pulling out his phone and dialing the only number he knew to call. “Hello....Mason. I think we need some help.”
