Child of the Sun and Moon
Two
Sometime in the middle of the night, I found myself lying wide awake from the pain with frozen tears glued to my cheek. I held back the scream in the back of my throat as more pain shot through my insides. I opened my mouth to bring air into my lungs and let out a gasp as more pain attacked me.
"Rae, what's wrong!" I heard Kayden say in the midst of things. Everything seem so cloudy. I blinked a couple of times watching everything start to morph into a blurry static scenery. Kayden shouted at somebody to go get the medical attendants. "Rae, everything is going to be fine, stay with me Rae!"
My eye fluttered shut and then I felt Kayden shake me. "You promised me Rae!" I opened my eyes and gave him a small smile.
"I'm not going to let a small dinky little blade kill me."
"Oh god, that wasn't no normal pocket knife!" I heard one of the M.A.'s say. "Shit, that was a fucking dark knife."
"The ones enchanted with poison," Kayden growled.
I yelped as something pierced through my skin. "Kayden! Claws!"
I felt the claws pull out of both of my arms and I sighed. "Sorry love," he murmured, kissing the top of my forehead. "I'm just losing my temper cause I know they were assigned to our pack for their expertise. But clearly they are screw ups, and should've never been assigned at all!"
"It wasn't completely our fault. It was also hers. For her actions when I pulled the knife out and demanding Lynn to heal her immediately. She never gave us the chance to check the blade."
"Markus, I'm pretty sure that you just don't pull out a blade like you did. I'll be sure that you're both suspended from medically attending the people of our clan, and make sure you go back to your masters. I'm willing to bet they'll be very disappointed in you both and would not want to teach you again." Kayden growled, holding me tight to his chest. "Get lost."
Kayden picked me up from the cot and began running through the camp. "Kayden, make sure they bring my captive, I need to talk to him...." I murmured, slowly slipping from reality.
I stirred slightly and opened my eyes. The room was too dark to make out any idea of where I was. I could hear a faint low murmur of voices somewhere near me, possibly in another room beside of me. A small crack of light filtered into the room and grew bigger as somebody entered through the door. I felt their presence over my bed and I turned to look up at them.
"Oh my sweet child," my mother murmured, sitting on the edge of my bed.
I felt so weak as I tried to sit up. She only shook her head and gently pushed me back down. "Mother, where's my prisoner, I have to speak with him," I murmured, coughing.
"Okay, I'll have Kayden send for him, just lie down and rest," she murmured, kissing in between my brows. I closed my eyes as her lips touch my forehead which was covered in cold sweats. I nodded slightly. She seemed satisfied, so she got up and left.
I listened for some approach of arrival to break the silence. I waited and waited in the dark, staring out the open hole in my bedroom wall that served as my window. I let my eyes slide shut for a minute and just fell into a deep thoughts over what the general had said.
"We were never evil young lady, you and your people are deceived by your leaders."
"Liar!"
"Believe what you want to believe, I speak only of the truth."
His eyes were so soft and gentle. So sincere. His facial expression was kind. Yet somehow, even though he still looked so friendly and vulnerable; he managed to stab me. I let him by letting my guard down with pride. He could've done a lot more damage though, but he didn't. Just stabbed me with a dark blade. He could've killed me. But he didn't.
"Rae, he's here," my mother called from the doorway. She stepped out of the way just as Kayden brought him in.
"Where do you want him tied?" Kayden asked.
"Just bring a chair over here, and leave him be, he'll be fine."
"But Rae-"
"Kayden, quit worrying, I know what I'm doing, get the chair and go."
Kayden sighed and brought a chair over by my bed so he could sit down and then left without another look. I watched as the old general sat down and I stared at him. I held up my hand and quickly casted a spell that would keep everything said between us. With the fling of my hand, I also shut the door completely and locked it.
"Why didn't you kill me?" I asked, sitting up in bed, grimacing in pain. "You had the perfect chance to kill me instead of stabbing me with this dark blade."
"There was no need to kill you. I saw no harm."
"About what you said, before Kayden came to my aid, why did you say that?" I asked slowly, seeing bruises and cuts on his face that weren't there when I captured him. "We were never evil young lady, you and your people are deceived by your leaders, what do you mean?"
The old man laughed and shook his head. "I never thought I live to see this day come." he sighed. "Another reason to have not killed you."
"What are you talking about."
Before he spoke again, he reached out with his hand and covered where he had stabbed me. Murmuring a few choice of words, his hand starting to glow a dark blue color. I notice that the pain had suddenly disappeared. He pulled his hand away and cleared his throat.
"Listen, all you need to know is that we were never evil, only made out to look that way." He paused. "That small werewolf clan that was living at the base of this mountain of the Kenya clan, what was their name, The Aero clan? Yes, that's it. We never destroyed their village. We have survivors that made it to our boundary line to our land. They're living with us now. Ask me who really did it."
"Why would Terrance attack a clan that caused us no problems, let alone harm." I said, playing along with an open mind.
"It's power young one, power." he shook his head. "Terrance only wants to have power, he makes it look like he wants your clan to be the royalty clan that rules all, but really, deep down inside, there's another master plan for him to become the ruler of this land."
"Ruler of all the creatures?" I asked, my brows pushing together in concern. "He can't rule all of Zaraina. None of the other creatures will allow it, let alone the humans. Each group has their own leader, with their own laws, and own customs."
The old man nodded. "This is why the war has occurred between our two clans. We try to protect those he tried to conquer and stop him. He makes it out to be us who is doing all the wrong."
I took down the spell and unlocked the door, watching it open. My mother stuck her head through the doorway as I sighed. "Mother, I need to talk to father, and quickly."
