Cameron and Caitlin
“Smile Cameron!” I yelled at him playfully.
He laughed and made a goofy face, and I laughed too. I noticed there was a smudge on the lens of my camera so I lowered it down from my eyes and wiped it clean with the bottom of my shirt.
“Just take the picture already.” he said. I lifted the camera back up to my face and said, “Well I would of someone would smile that beautiful smile I love.”
When I said that Cameron smiled. Click! I snapped the picture. “There. See, it wasn’t that hard was it?” I asked as I sat the camera down on a nearby rock and walked over to Cameron who was standing under a giant, old, beautiful oak tree.
“Is my smile all that you love?” Cameron asked very seriously. His face was expressionless and he was staring me right in the eyes.
I stared right back into is crystal blue eyes. I felt like I was staring into the beautiful water of the Pacific Ocean. We had been together for about six months now, and we knew each other since we were eighteen. Now we were twenty, so it’s been around two years. We hadn’t said that we loved each other out loud yet, but it was always implied. “No. I love the movie Titanic, and fresh baked chocolate chip cookies, and the color teal.”
He rolled his eyes, “Seriously Caitlin.”
I took two steps forward so that his chest and mine were nearly touching. I lifted my head so that I could look at him. I was a few inches shorter that him, so when I stood next to him my head was even with his shoulders.
“I love a boy named Cameron too.” I almost whispered. He smiled, the same smile that I managed to capture in the photograph earlier, and lowered his head. “And I love a girl named Caitlin.”
I stood up on my tiptoes and wrapped my arms around his shoulders as I began to kiss him. It began very soft and innocent, but then he bit my bottom lip and we really started getting into it.
Click! I heard my camera and I pulled myself away from Cameron. “Wow you guys. That was intense.” Skylar said as he handed my camera over to Faith to show her the picture he had just taken. Skylar was my roommates, Faith, boyfriend. They came with us hiking, but we split up about two hours ago. What a great time for them to find us.
Cameron cleared his throat and started walking towards them. I ran my fingers through my long black hair quickly and joined the others who had begun walking along the trail that was up ahead.
“Well, are you all ready to start heading back. We have about three hours before it starts getting dark.” I said looking at the time on my camera.
“Yeah, I guess. Hey, are you guys coming back to mine and Caitlin’s place?” Faith asked. Skylar always spends the night over at our place. Cameron comes over all the time and stays until the early hours of the morning, but he has never slept over. “Yeah, I am. What about you Cam?” asked Skylar.
He looked over at me for a second and I smiled, “Yeah, I’m coming.” he answered. All four of us hiked back to my truck. We got there around eight and the sun was just setting. I was able to get a few more pictures before we left.
We made it to our house around eleven. Skylar and Faith went straight to her room, leaving me and Cameron the rest of the house. “Let’s go to my room. I want to print out some of these pictures.” I said. I led Cameron by the hand to my room, even though he knew where it was, and I opened the door. I walked straight in without turning the light on. Cameron turned the light on as he followed me in, “Why don’t we leave it off for now.” I said as I made my way to my bed that was in the middle of the room. Cameron watched me sit on the bad and turned the light back off.
“Go stand in front of my bed.” I ordered.
“Okay…” Cameron said. I heard his footsteps and them a boom and felt my bed shake a bit. He started cussing. I started laughing.
“Are you okay?” I managed to ask between laughs and gasps for air.
He sighed, “Just dandy.” he said sarcastically. I could picture the look that was on his face even though I couldn’t see it because the lights were out.
“Now what?” he asked. I assumed he was now at the front of my bed because of where the sound of his voice was coming from.
I made sure that the flash on my camera was on and pressed the button. Click the light flashed bright across my room and I saw Cameron for a split second. His eyes were wide with surprise and I laughed.
“You think that was funny?” He asked. I couldn’t answer because I was still laughing at his facial expression. He jumped onto the bed and tackled me. He began tickling me, and I was the most ticklish person ever. I couldn’t breathe and I was laughing hysterically. He finally stopped and we just laid there while I was trying to catch my breath.
“Come on. This will be fun. Go stand back over there.” he must have considered it for a few seconds because my room was silent and motionless. Then I felt him get off my bed. I sat up and crossed my legs and took the next picture.
The flash revealed Cameron standing there with one foot on the floor and the other on my bed. His right arm was outstretched towards me and he was pointing with his index finger. So basically it was the pose from the movie Grease. You know, the part where they stand on top of the car when they sing the song Grease Lightning. I laughed and snapped another picture.
Click! This time he was flexing both of his arms. The darkness of the night covered my room once again and I took the next picture. This time he was on his knee in front of my bed. He had his arms in front of him. In his hands was a little red box. Inside of it was a gorgeous diamond ring. The flash of my camera caused the diamond to sparkle brilliantly. The room was dark now and I couldn’t move. I took one more picture just to see if he was still kneeled down on the floor. Click! He was.
“Oh. My. Gosh. Cameron.” I said. It was totally black in the room and I was glad. I didn’t want him to see the shocked look on my face.
“I love you Caitlin. Ever since I met you two years ago. I’ve always loved you. Will you marry me?” he asked, breaking the silence.
Oh my gosh, “Cameron. Yes!”
He laughed and made a goofy face, and I laughed too. I noticed there was a smudge on the lens of my camera so I lowered it down from my eyes and wiped it clean with the bottom of my shirt.
