Can't have you.

6.

Reaching the airport, Lauren and Emily smiled. They needed to get away from the busy streets of LA even though it was only for a few days. Once they were inside the airport, they checked in, wandered around a few shops and got a drink. Sitting in a small café, the girls spoke about how everything back in England had most likely changed since they had moved out to LA, almost a year ago. Once the girl’s flight was called, they made their way to the boarding gate. Reaching it, they looked back into the airport, only a few other people seemed to be walking to the gate so the plane must already be full. Walking onto the plane, the girls sat in their seats. The plane was, in fact, already full. Only a few seats were unoccupied. Sliding into their seats, the girls spoke about their plans for the next few days, about how they were seeing their parents and friends and then spending some time together at the places they used to go when they were still at secondary school. The plane finally took off, and before long, the girls were sleeping, wasting the time they were spending on a plane to catch up on lost sleep from the night before.

After a long weekend of seeing the family, catching up with friends and going to see their old haunts, the girls returned to LA on Tuesday night, 10pm. Lauren and Emily are climbing out of the cab they had got from the airport, suitcases in hand, smiling.
Walking into their apartment, Lauren dropped her suitcase to the floor. Running into the living room, she opened the windows. It had been a hot few days in LA and the girls apartment was sweltering hot. Emily stood in the door, looking around the apartment, a smile on her face, she had really missed hers and Lauren’s little apartment, even though it was small, and it was home now. Sliding into a seat on the balcony, Lauren smiled. Looking out over the night view of LA, Emily moved from where she was stood to sit in a seat.
“So what are we doing this weekend?” Lauren quizzed Emily.

“Uhm, im not sure. We could go shopping or we could stay in. Or we could just go to the nearest beach and stay there all day. Up to you really” Emily shrugged as she moved in her uncomfortable seat, trying to find a more comfortable position.

“Well, don’t ask me. We should probably go food shopping on Friday night. We haven’t been in over a week now and the cupboards are starting to look empty. But then we can do whatever for the rest of the weekend.” Shrugging Lauren stood up.

“Alright, you off to bed?” Emily looked at Lauren as she stood.

“Yup, you?”

“Nah, im not that tired, im just gunna stay out here for a bit” Emily smiled at Lauren.

“Okay, well night Em” Lauren waved as she entered the apartment.

“Yeah, night Lauren. Don’t forget we gotta lecture in the morning” Emily waved back.

“I wont” Lauren shouted as she reached her bedroom door. Walking in, Lauren closed the door behind her.

Emily stayed out on the balcony for about an hour after Lauren went to bed. Not long after Lauren had left Kevin text Emily. She had not moved from the seat she was in, constantly texting him.

‘So how was England? Is Lauren ok? Nick wants to know lol ’

‘England was ok I guess. I mean, it’s not exactly the best weather in the world but it’s not exactly the worst either I guess. Lauren’s fine, she’s sleeping now though. Tell Nick to wake her up. Im sure she wouldn’t mind ’

‘Cool, I told Nick and he said no. he’d rather wake a lion that Lauren lol’

‘Lol, I don’t blame him. I wouldn’t wake her up’

‘So what are you doing? Im sat waiting for our food to come  I love food  as long as it’s not fruit, ug’

Laughing Emily replied with... ‘Im sat on my balcony falling to sleep, im gunna go to sleep now. Ill ring you tomorrow. I could guess you love food, but I love fruit ’

‘Ok, night babe. Sleep tight. Love you’ Emily smiled as she read Kevin’s text. She was falling in love with him and she knew it.

3 days later... Thursday evening, 7pm. Lauren and Emily are wondering around the local supermarket buying their weekly food shop.

“So what do we need?” Emily looked at Lauren and then the list in her hands.

“Everything basically, let’s move it so we can actually eat tonight” Laughing, Emily pushed the trolley while Lauren shouted out things that they would need.

When the girls had got most of the things on their list, they gave up. Having the essentials like bread, milk, butter and something to drink was the most important. They had all of this and were heading for the tills. Ignoring everything around her, Emily pushed the trolley to the closet till. Piling the things onto it, the girls chatted away about what to do this weekend. Once they had put everything on, they went to the end and put the shopping into bags. Filling the trolley with bags of food, they paid half each and then left. Walking over to Lauren’s small black car, that she had got a week ago after passing her test, the girls filled the boot with the shopping.

Deciding on getting something to eat when they were out, they headed for the local café. Walking in, the girls looked at the TV that all the girls in the café had their eyes glued. The TV was on E! Not a normal channel for a café. Sliding into a booth, they carried on looking at the TV and Kevin, Nick and Joe came on. All boys had smiles to match; of course they were the reason all the girls had matching smiles of excitement. Lauren and Emily carried on watching as their orders were taken. Just before their food was brought back to them, Kevin and Nick both said they had to tell their fans some important news. Smiling at each other, Kevin told the person interviewing the band about Emily, before Nick told the person about Lauren. Their mouths were hanging open as they heard the boys tell people about how they were really falling for Lauren and Emily.

1 week later- Nick and Kevin have just got home from their tour doing press work.

Lauren and Emily were rushing around their apartment. In half an hour Nick and Kevin would be picking them up and the girls still needed to finish getting ready. Since Emily started before Lauren, she was pretty much ready, but still needed to finish off her make up. Where as Lauren had only just put on her blue dress and matching blue heels. Sighing she ran a hairbrush through her hair, leaving it like it is naturally instead of spending the last half an hour she had to straighten her hair. Emily stood in the bathroom now, black mascara in her hands. She wore a black dress and black heels to match. Both girls looked stunning in their outfits, Emily had more confidence in what she was wearing though. Smiling at herself in the small mirror, Emily played with a strand of her hair; she was ready to go, whereas Lauren was only just attempting to put on her make-up and only had 10 minutes to go. Sighing with frustration, Lauren slipped her shoes on, as she flicked a small amount of mascara on. Not bothering with anything else, she ran out of her room as the door bell went.

Walking out into the living room, Nick stood by the door. Kevin was stood with his arms wrapped tightly around Emily’s waist, kissing her forehead, again and again. Lauren wandered over and wrapped her arms around Nick’s waist from behind, turning around in her arms, he faced her. Once Nick was facing Lauren, he kissed her cheek and then her forehead.
“I missed you so much Lauren” Nick smiled down at Lauren.

“I missed you more than you missed me” Smiling Lauren poked her tongue out at Nick in triumph.

“Whatever. Did you see us on E!?” Nick looked down at Lauren, a smile playing on his perfect lips.

“We did, you should have seen my mouth drop. But it was nothing compared to Emily’s” Lauren laughed at the memory.

“Lauren, your not supposed to tell them” Emily gave Lauren evil looks before laughing.

“Oh I am so sorry Emily” rolling her eyes Lauren leant her head against Nick’s chest, taking in his smell and heart beating.

“Aww… look at the lovebirds” Emily cooed from the corner.

“Says the one” Lauren mumbled into Nick’s chest.

“Come on girls, we’ve gotta meet Joe and Camilla at the restaurant in ten” Kevin spoke for the first time since Lauren entered the room.

Emily and Kevin led the way out, hand in hand. Behind them, Lauren and Nick walked, also hand in hand, but Lauren’s head was against Nick’s chest, still listening to his soothing heart beat. When the couples reached the elevator, Lauren turned on her heel, only to be stopped by Nick’s arms. He promised her she would be safe before pulling her into the elevator. Emily spoke softly to Kevin in the far corner from the doors, while Nick soothed Lauren, her heart beat fastening once the doors closed, next to the doors, waiting for them to open. As soon as the doors opened, Lauren walked out, sighing she ran her free hand through her hair. She looked back to see Emily and Kevin, slowly leaving the lift. Walking out in the night air the girls looked around, looking for a familiar car, neither saw one. Kevin pulled Emily towards a jeep, Nick following behind, his hand still entwined with Lauren’s. Opening the doors, Kevin helped Emily in. closing the door, he ran around to the drivers side, while Nick and Lauren slid into the back seats. Smiling back at Lauren, Emily played with the hem of her dress, unsure on what to do she sat back and strapped in. following her lead, Lauren did the same.

The car started not long after and the 4 were on their way to a restaurant, one in which Lauren and Emily had never been to before and one they didn’t even know the name for. Pulling in to the side of the road, Kevin hopped out and chucked the keys to a man waiting to park the car for them, Emily, Lauren and nick also slid out of their seats and walked to where Kevin was stood. Leading the way, Kevin walked towards a set of doors, his hand never leaving Emily’s. Nick followed after Kevin and Emily his hand also never leaving Lauren’s. Smiling Lauren and Emily entered the restaurant and understood why they needed to be dressed up and why the boys also looked quite smart in black trousers and plain shirts. The waiter showed them over to a table, Joe and Camilla were already sat down, glasses on the table in front of them, talking about something to do with a baseball game. Smiling Emily slid into the seat that Kevin had held out for her, while Lauren sat down on a seat next to Nick, who had sat down quickly after hearing someone shout, ‘isn’t that Nick Jonas?’. Smiling, Kevin introduced everyone before the waiter came and took everyone’s orders. Conversations were struck up between everyone, Nick talking to Joe, while Kevin spoke to Camilla and Emily and Lauren spoke to each other. When the food arrived, Lauren’s phone started to ring in her bag, excusing herself, Lauren walked to a quite area of the restaurant.
“Hello mum?” Lauren spoke; worried something was going wrong in England.

“Hey Lauren, look I need to tell you that your cousin lost the baby” Lauren’s mum spoke on the other end of the phone in an upset tone.

“Oh mum, is she ok? What happened? Can you tell her im sorry?” Lauren rambled on.

“She’s fine, she had a miscarriage. Of course ill tell her your sorry” Lauren’s mum soothed her while she shook.

“Oh god, im so sorry. Look, im out so can I ring you tomorrow? Im gunna ring her first thing tomorrow too” Lauren once again rambled on.

“Ok Lauren, look have a good evening. Of course you can ring me tomorrow, ill tell your cousin your going to ring tomorrow ok?”

“Sure, thanks for letting me know mum. Bye” Lauren closed her phone silently. Sliding down the wall, she sat on the floor, gaining composure before she went back to the table.

Lauren stood up, just as she was about to walk back around the wall hiding her from view, she heard Camilla and Joe talking. Moving closer to the wall she listened in once she heard Emily’s name.
“Kevin and Emily are a really cute couple. They look so good for each other, im happy Kevin has found someone like Emily. They deserve each other obviously. But Lauren, she’s using Nick, I can see it. She’s the type of person that’s in it for the money and the fame, that’s it” Camilla went on and on. Feeling a tear roll down her cheek, Lauren ran around the corner, running straight in to Camilla.

As she ran into Camilla, Lauren gave her a dirty look. Receiving one back, she pushed past Joe and Camilla and ran towards the entrance. As she saw Nick, Emily and Kevin, she sped up. She didn’t want to be near anyone now; she didn’t need to speak to anyone now. Running straight past the table, Emily saw the tears running down Lauren’s face. Standing up, she ran out of the restaurant after her. Once she was out of the restaurant, Lauren ran and didn’t look back, refusing for anyone to find her; she ran and ran until her feet couldn’t move anymore. Emily left the restaurant just minutes after Lauren, but she couldn’t see her. Emily began to panic, running around in circles, looking for her tearful, upset, best friend. Tears began to well in Emily’s eyes as she carried on looking for Lauren, she couldn’t find her and she was worried. What was she going to do? What if Lauren had got hurt? She didn’t know what to do and why Lauren was upset. All she knew was that Lauren needed her now, even if she thought she didn’t need anyone.
Just so everyone knows the saying 'old haunts' means places the girls used to hang out to.
