Can't have you.
38.
After pulling up outside of Lauren’s child hood home, the boys paid for the taxi after complaining that Claire and Lauren had paid for it this morning. Walking up to the gate, Lauren turned and smiled as Joe and Nick tried to figure out what the, more-than-Bristolian, taxi driver said.
“He said, £15.” Claire called to the boys laughing.
“They really need to learn to understand Bristolian.” Lauren giggled.
The boys finally paid the driver and then walked over to Lauren and Claire who were stood just by the gate. Lauren opened the gate and began walking in, only to be pulled back my Nick. Claire was also having trouble with Joe having stopped.
“Come on, we don’t have all day. My brother’s gotta go to work later.” Lauren mumbled.
“Why again?” Nick said, looking over at the house.
“Because you need to meet our families. Now move it, both of you Jonas.” Lauren said, tugging on Nick’s hand.
“No.” Nick said, trying to be stubborn.
“Come on, you have to meet our parents at some point and it just so happens that points tonight.” Lauren said, pulling Nick into the front garden.
“We’ve made it easier for you too; my parents and Lauren’s parents are all here tonight.” Claire grinned, tugging on Joe’s hand.
The boys finally gave in and followed Claire and Lauren into Lauren’s child hood home where their families were waiting eagerly to meet the boys that had stole the girl’s hearts.
Lauren and Claire walked straight into the front door which was slightly ajar. The boys stood outside being polite before Lauren beckoned them in. the boys walked in and instantly joined hands with their girlfriends.
“Mum, dad, we’re here.” Lauren called through the house.
“We’re in the in living room.” Lauren’s mum called back.
“Come on then.” Lauren said as she walked into the living area where everyone was sat.
Walking in, Lauren took in the familiar surroundings and also the different people sat around. Lauren’s younger sisters were sat on the floor, adamantly playing on the wii, her brother slumped in the chair in the corner, texting someone, her parents sat on one sofa next to the window and Claire’s parents sat on the sofa opposite.
“Hey.” Lauren grinned.
“Hey.” Claire repeated, smiling at the people in the room.
There was a chorus of ‘Hi’s’ as the two couples walked into the room. Nick and Joe mumbled back ‘hello’ before standing silently. Lauren took the chance to introduce everyone.
“So guys, this is Nick and Joe.” Lauren said pointing to the two boys.
“We know.” Lauren’s younger sisters grinned.
“Guys, these are Claire’s parents, my parents, my younger sisters, don’t worry about names, it gets kind of confusing and my brother, Kieran.” Lauren smiled.
“Nice to meet you.” Claire’s dad said, shaking the boy’s hands.
After the introductions, Lauren’s little sisters all went into the garden to play on the trampoline while Kieran went out to work. That left the girls parents. Everyone chatter mindlessly about different things, like how the boys were doing in their music career’s, how Lauren and Claire seemed really happy around the boys and how Claire and Lauren were moving to LA.
“Im going to get a drink, does anyone want one?” Lauren asked as she stood from the position she had taken on the floor just in front of Nick.
“Yes please, can I have a bottle of water.” Claire grinned.
The others in the room then went onto give Lauren their orders.
“Ill give you a hand.” Nick said, standing up from his place on the sofa.
“Its fine.” Lauren smiled.
“No, knowing you, you’ll drop something.” Nick laughed.
“I guess so. Come on then.” Lauren said, grabbing Nick’s hand and dragging him from the room.
Lauren walked down the small hallway and into the kitchen. The back door was opening and the screams of laughter drifted through it while Lauren’s mum’s dog ran around in the garden, chasing after a stick that was being thrown around. Lauren went to the kettle first and put in fresh water before turning it on.
“Do you want me to get the waters?” Nick asked Lauren.
“Yeah sure. They’ll be in the fridge somewhere.” Lauren smiled before pointing towards the fridge.
“Ok.” Nick grinned before rummaging in the fridge for 4 bottles of water.
While Nick got the water, Lauren grabbed a tray and 3 cups for the coffee’s she was about to make. She set down the tray and placed the cups on top of it before sorting out the sugar and coffee, putting the correct amount into each cup.
“Can you grab the milk too?” Lauren asked Nick as he placed 3 bottles on the side before going back to get another one.
“Sure.” Nick grinned.
As the kettle whistled, showing that the water had boiled, Lauren poured it in on top of the coffee and sugar already in the cups. Grabbing the milk off of the side where Nick had placed it, Lauren poured milk into the correct cups and then set it back in the fridge.
“Here let me carry it, I don’t want you to tip it and end up burnt.” Nick smiled.
“Thanks.” Lauren smiled as she passed Nick the tray before quickly kissing his cheek.
“Come on.” Nick smiled, leading the way back to the living room.
As the two walked in, Lauren gasped. She had never realised before how protective her brother was until she saw him making Joe look like a little child.
“What the hell is going on?” Lauren screamed.
“Shut up a minute Lauren.” Kieran demanded.
“No! Tell me now!” Lauren screamed again.
Kieran turned back to face Lauren, giving Joe enough time to move behind Claire who was sending Kieran death glares.
“He was being rude.” Kieran yelled.
“How?” Lauren yelled back, showing everyone in the room how her bad her anger could get.
“He said that Claire was blonde.” Kieran said, giving Joe dirty looks.
“Kieran, Claire is blonde you retard. Plus it’s a joke, we all call Claire blonde.” Lauren carried on shouting.
“Oh right.” Kieran mumbled.
“Say sorry now!” Lauren demanded.
“Sorry.” Kieran mumbled pathetically.
“That has to be the most pathetic apology ive ever heard.” Lauren said, calming down a little bit now.
“Sorry.” Kieran said a little louder.
“Thanks, now leave him alone or so help me god Kieran I will more than hurt you and that’s before Claire gets to you.” Lauren said turning her back on her brother.
“Sorry Lauren.” Kieran said before leaving the room.
“I think its time to go.” Lauren said, trying to calm down.
“Ok, you guys go out for a few hours.” Lauren’s mum said.
“Alright, bye guys.” Lauren said, walking out of the house.
Nick followed behind Lauren, a look of shock on his face. Claire walked along hand in hand with Joe; both wore looks of confusion and shock on their faces. Claire’s look of shock was not because of the way Lauren’s anger had spiralled out of control like Joe’s and Nick’s though; hers was the way Kieran had taken the situation.
“Sorry about that guys. You go ahead and go to the hotel, I need to go somewhere.” Lauren mumbled before walking off.
Joe and Nick watched as Lauren walked away, not knowing where she was going. Claire understood though, Lauren was going to the one place she felt she could go when she needed someone to talk to. She was going to her cousin’s grave.
