Can't have you.
32.
Smiling, Claire leant her head against Joe’s chest again. The ringing of Claire’s phone brought the couple out of their dream like trance. Claire jumped from her position and grabbed her phone.
“Hello?” She asked shakily.
“Hey Claire.” Lauren sang through the phone.
“You sound happy.” Claire commented.
“I am, I can now officially play 2 cords on the guitar.” Lauren screeched.
“Yeah you don’t need to shout.” Claire laughed.
“Sorry.” Lauren almost whispered.
“Don’t worry about it. How did you learn?”
“Well, me and Nick were at the park and paparazzi showed up and because they were following us we went into the guitar shop opposite the park and rang Kevin. And then the man shut the shop and then he got all go to the back room I need to open the shop back up, so we did. And then Nick taught me.” Lauren said, smiling.
“Cool, you’ll have to learn to play some songs.” Claire smiled.
“Ok, look Kevin’s driving me back now so ill see you in a minute.” Lauren beamed.
“Alright, in a bit.” Claire said hanging up.
Joe sat on the sofa, legs spread out in front of him, smiling at Claire. Once her phone was back on the side, Claire jumped onto the sofa and into Joe’s arms.
“Lauren is mad. I heard her shout from here.” Joe laughed as he wrapped protective arms around Claire.
“She’s had Dr Pepper, I just know it. Im not going to sleep tonight.” Claire said laughing.
“Never mind, are they coming back now?” Joe asked.
“Lauren is im not sure about any one else.” Claire said shrugging.
“Hopefully she’s run out of energy by the time she gets here and she goes to sleep straight away. Then we can sit and talk again.” Joe smiled.
“Maybe, but I doubt that very much.” Claire said, giggling gently.
“So do I.” Joe laughed along.
After about 5 minutes, Lauren came bounding into the hotel room, Nick close behind her. Lauren had a smile of accomplishment on her face.
“We’re going to my room so Nick can teach me some more guitar.” Lauren smiled.
That’s when Claire and Joe noticed the guitar Nick was carrying in his hands.
“Where did you get that Bro.?” Joe asked Nick.
“I brought it at the guitar shop, one to teach Lauren on.” Nick said shrugging and following Lauren.
“Oh right.” Joe said as Nick shut the door behind him.
Claire and Joe instantly went back to sitting, wrapped in one another’s arms watching TV. While they done this, Lauren jumped onto her bed, crossing her legs as she did so. Nick sat on the end of the bed, and pulled the guitar out of its case.
“Come here then.” Lauren said, patting the bed next to her.
“Ok.” Nick grinned as he passed Lauren the guitar.
Lauren took the guitar in her hands and placed it how Nick had told her too in the shop. When she looked up, Nick was sat next to her.
“Right, the next cord you need to know is easy.” Nick said as he placed his hands on top of Lauren’s.
Gently, he moved their hands together, strumming the guitar and plucking the right note. He repeated it a few times before dropping his hands and letting Lauren carry on doing it by her. Nick watched Lauren lovingly as she played the cords she knew over and over again, her smile getting bigger each time she got it right and fading slightly when she got it wrong.
“Claire, come listen to me.” Lauren screeched.
Stumbling, Claire stood and pulled Joe’s hand, making him move to Lauren’s room to listen to her play. Smiling, Lauren began strumming the 3 cords she new by heart.
“Cool.” Claire grinned, wrapping her arms around Joe’s neck.
“That’s pretty cool for a beginner.” Joe smiled as his arms snaked around Claire’s waist.
“I know.” Lauren smiled; lacing her fingers with Nick’s who was sat just behind her.
“Told you, you’re good.” Nick grinned, kissing Lauren’s cheek lightly.
“No you didn’t. You told me I was crap.” Lauren laughed while an evil smile took place on her face.
“Ok, I did.” Nick said, pretend pouting while he laughed.
“Lauren? Have you had Dr Pepper?” Claire asked, trying not to laugh.
“Pshh, no, maybe, just a little.” Lauren grinned.
“I knew it and you didn’t even get me any Red Bull.” Claire said pouting.
“Im sorry, but Emily had it so I stole it from her.” Lauren grinned evilly.
“Thief.” Joe laughed.
“I know.” Lauren said, grinning.
“Right, were going out for a bit, see you guys later.” Joe said, dragging Claire from the room.
“Bye.” Lauren called as she waved like a lunatic.
“You can stop waving now Lauren, they left.” Nick said ginning as the door to the hotel room closed.
Lacing his fingers with Lauren’s Nick smiled down at her.
Meanwhile, Emily and Kevin sat on the floor in their living room, magazines surrounding them as Emily looked in awe at the many dresses in the bridal magazines.
“You’re going to have to choose Em.” Kevin said after nearly an hour of Emily changing her mind again and again.
“I can’t though.” Emily pouted.
“How about you get Lauren and Claire over to help you.” Kevin suggested.
“Nu huh, Lauren stole my Dr Pepper, its war now.” Emily said laughing.
“Fine then, have a war once you’ve chose your dress.” Kevin grinned.
“Ok, if I must.” Emily smiled.
“Good, now, we need to calm down on the wedding plans. We’ve been engaged for only a couple of hours and you’ve chose colours, food and place cards.” Kevin said chuckling.
“Soo?” Emily said, grinning back.
“We haven’t even told our families, don’t you think you should like ring your parents.” Kevin said.
“If I must.” Emily pouted pulling her phone from her pocket.
“Yes you must. Now once you’ve done that, get your ass changed cos I wanna take you out to celebrate.” Kevin grinned.
“Ok, where are we going?” Emily quizzed.
“Im not telling you, it’s a surprise.” Kevin smiled, walking into the bathroom to shower and get ready for the night.
“Fine.” Emily called as she dialled her parent’s home number.
After a few rings, Emily’s mum, Cathy, answered the phone. Emily told her mum who squealed and congratulated her daughter and then demanded to talk to her soon-to-be-son-in-law. Emily called Kevin, who emerged from the bathroom, just wearing a pair of trousers while Emily rummaged through her wardrobe for an outfit to wear that evening. After half an hour, Emily had found her outfit, consisting of a black dress, a pair of black pumps and a small black clutch bag. She finished the outfit off with a small white cardigan and white costume jewellery. Once Emily had all of her clothes, Kevin came into the room and handed her, her phone, having finished talking to Emily’s mum.
“Hello?” She asked shakily.
“Hey Claire.” Lauren sang through the phone.
