Fear washed through Lauren’s body as she began to panic, not once moving her face from Nick’s chest though. Her fears of lifts were because of this exact reason, that she would get stuck in it when it broke down.
“Lauren, its ok. Stay calm.” Nick said as he began rubbing soothing circles into her back.
“Its not ok, why did I have to be brave today.” Lauren said, cursing silently in her head.
“Look at me Lauren.” Nick said.
Slowly Lauren raised her head to look at Nick.
“Do you trust me?”
“Yes.”
“Well then, trust me when I say everything is going to be ok.” Nick said as he pulled out his phone.
Lauren saw him enter a number quickly before she blacked out, the last thing she felt were Nick’s strong arms holding her gently against his chest.
After around 5 minutes, Lauren finally came round to see herself still in the darkness of the broken down lift. Nick was holding her gently in his arms as he sat on the floor.
“Nick? Why are we still here?” Lauren whispered.
“Lauren, thank god you’re awake. Its fine, their sorting it out now, I rang Kevin and down to reception. We’ll be out any minute. I promise you.” Nick said, gently brushing Lauren’s fringe out of her eyes.
“I don’t like it Nick.” Lauren said, tears forming in her eyes.
“Look, you’re fine, im here and nothings going to happen. We will be out any minute.” Nick soothed.
Just as Nick spoke, the lights came back on in the lift and it began moving down. The second the doors opened, Emily and Claire rushed into the lift, hugging Lauren.
“Thank god you’re ok. Nick said you blacked out.” Emily muttered.
“Im fine, I did but Nick looked after me.” Lauren said, lacing her fingers with Nicks.
“I know he did sweetie.” Claire said.
“Come on; let’s get you out of here.” Nick said as he stood and walked out of the lift.
The 3 couples walked out of the apartment block and sat down on the nearest benches, Lauren shaking from the ordeal of being stuck in the lift while Nick guided her gently, his arms placed around her waist protectively.
“I was so worried when you blacked out.” Nick whispered to Lauren once he had pulled her down onto his laugh.
“Im sorry.” Lauren whispered back.
“It’s not your fault Laur.” Nick soothed.
“It was, if I hadn’t gone in the lift, we wouldn’t have got caught.” Lauren said as she moved her face into the crook of his neck.
“Its fine.” Nick said as he smoothed relaxing circles into Lauren’s back.
After a little more discussion with Lauren determined that getting stuck in the lift was her fault and Nick disagreeing with her, the others stood and went back into the apartment block, making sure they took the stairs and not the lift.
“Where are you lot going?” Lauren called out.
“Back inside, thought you were going for a walk.” Emily called back.
“We were, come on lets go Lauren. I wanna talk to you about some stuff.” Nick said, speaking the last part in a whisper so only Lauren could hear.
“Ok, see you guys in a bit.” Lauren called back carelessly while she stood.
Nick followed Lauren’s lead and stood too, before lacing his fingers with her. The couple walked in silence for a little while, they feet falling in time to each others.
“Where are we going?” Lauren finally asked.
Nick turned and grinned at Lauren, “The Park. For ice cream.”
“Cool.”
Once again, they fell back into silence. After a few minutes, Lauren started to hum along to the song in her head. She had no idea what it was but knew she was going to find out and download it for her ipod the second she got to her laptop.
“Why are you humming Cant Have You?” Nick quizzed.
So that’s what the song is Lauren thought before speaking.
“I like it.” She grinned back at him.
“Good, you were meant to.” He said, grinning back.
“Its amazing.” Lauren added to her previous comment.
“Like you.” Nick grinned before gently kissing Lauren.
“And like you.” Lauren grinned once Nick had pulled back.
They walked along, both humming the words to Cant Have You in their heads. Suddenly, Lauren had the urge to run; she dropped her hand from Nick’s and picked up her pace before she was running. She looked back at Nick to see him stood completely still, a look of shock on his face.
“What you waiting for?” Lauren called.
“Huh?” Nick said, being pulled out of his own little world.
“Come on, slow couch.” Lauren shouted before turning and running again.
Nick started to run, steadily at first before kicking into a proper run. After only a few minutes, he caught up with Lauren and wrapped his arms around her waist, stopping her from running any more.
“That’s not fair; you have longer legs than me.” Lauren pouted.
“Aww, im sorry.” Nick said, turning Lauren to face him.
“You best be.” Lauren said as she began wriggling out of Nick’s grip.
“Nu huh.” He said laughing and tightening his grip, pulling Lauren closer to his body.
“Yu huh.” Lauren laughed as she wriggled again.
“You’re mine.” Nick said as he placed a soft kiss on Lauren’s lips.
When Lauren pulled away, Nick pouted.
“Get it right, your mine.” Lauren said, winking.
Finally Lauren had wriggled enough and was able to pull out of Nick’s grasp. Quickly she kissed his nose before sprinting off again, running straight to the park and onto the climbing frame.
Nick quickly caught up with Lauren, just as she was beginning her climb to the top of the frame, even though she was nearly as tall as it. Nick, on the other hand, was as tall as the climbing frame. Quickly and swiftly, Nick attached his arms to Lauren’s waist and pulled her back to him, wrapping his arms around her waist firmly. This time Lauren didn’t struggle, she wrapped her arms around Nick’s neck, kissed him and then hid her face in his chest, a smile on her face.
