Can't have you.
3.
Lauren and Emily sat in the bathroom in their apartment. Emily stood in front of the mirror, pulling her hair about, deciding on how to wear it this evening. Both girls in dressing gowns and pyjamas discussing outfits, make-up and hair, and of course Kevin. Lauren had a small make-up box in her hands, while one bigger one was on the floor open too. Rummaging through the masses of make-up Lauren pulled out a light shade of blue eye shadow and held it out for Emily.
“Do you think I should go for the natural look? I don’t want him to think I’ve tried too hard?” Emily yapped at Lauren.
“Em you look fine, he obviously likes you a lot. Just be yourself.” Lauren replied supportively.
“Are you sure? I really don’t think the whole loads of make-up and revealing clothes is the best way to go with someone like Kevin” Emily shrugged, before turning on her heal to face Lauren.
“Like I said you look fine. You don’t need to wear make-up, do the usual thing you do. And wear something nice but not something revealing. There sorted” Lauren handed Emily a blue mascara.
A few minutes later, hair finally in place, and outfit on, Emily was finally ready to go. Walking out of the bathroom, she wandered out into the living room, where Lauren sat on the sofa, entranced by Edward Cullen’s voice drifting from the speakers where, once again she was watching Twilight.
“Same old Lauren” Emily laughed.
“Oh Yes!!” Lauren giggled. “I’m going to marry him one day you know?”
“Of course Lauren…” But Emily was cut off by a distant beeping from outside of the apartment. She ran out onto the cold balcony and leant over to see Kevin looking up lovingly, roses in hand. She smiled softly and ran back into the apartment, screaming at Lauren excitedly, “He’s here. Im off, I’ll see you tonight.”
“What ever, see you later” Lauren replied, waving her hand dismissively, still gazing at the amazing smile on Edward Cullen’s face.
Reaching the doors, Kevin stood, his hand outstretched as he passed the roses to Emily. Taking them, gratefully, she smiled and took his other hand, pulling herself in close to his chest. On the way to the car, he released his grasp in order to open his Lamborghini car door for Emily. Climbing in, Emily smiled up at Kevin as he shut the door behind her, before running off around the to drivers side. Climbing in himself, he smiled warmly at Emily, before strapping himself in and starting the engine. The car purred to life as Kevin put his foot down onto the clutch and drove off to the restaurant he was taking Emily too.
“So, I hope you like sea food” Kevin stole a glimpse at Emily, before adverting his eyes back onto the road.
“Sea foods good. Why? Where are we going?” Emily turned her attention from the passing scenery to look at Kevin.
“The Purple Lobster.”
Giggling Emily responded with, “Well, I have just started this new sea food diet, I see for and I eat it”, still laughing she looked back to the window.
“Very funny Emily” Kevin was too laughing now.
As they approached the restaurant, they were greeted with sharp, bright flashes everywhere.
“What is all this?” Emily said confusingly.
“Paparazzi. I’m really sorry about this. Don’t worry though, the restaurant is quiet.”
He replied.
“Aren’t you worried about being seen with me? I’m a nobody.” Emily questioned worryingly.
“You’re not a nobody. You’re a somebody, especially to me.” He replied lovingly, his eyes glistening underneath the moonlight as he spoke to her.
Emily took a deep breath and went to take her first step out of the car before Kevin squeezed her hand. Stepping out of the car, Emily blinked and covered her eyes with her arm, shielding them from the continuous flashes, all directed at Kevin, but the flashes were still there shocking Emily. Kevin took Emily’s hand and led her into the restaurant. Looking around, Emily took in the purple walls and fishing nets hung around the walls. Smiling, she looked around at Kevin who was stood, inches from Emily’s face.
When Emily and Kevin had got a table, they walked over, hand in hand. Reaching the table, once again, Kevin loosened his grasp from Emily’s hand, reaching forward he pulled the chair out for Emily to sit down. Pushing her chair back in, he moved around the table and sat on the chair facing Emily. Looking around, she realised that there was no-one else in the restaurant with them.
“Where is everyone?” She questioned.
“I made an arrangement with guys here, they locked the doors, and no-one else is gunna come in tonight.” He smirked, a grin appearing revealing his perfectly white teeth.
Smiling back, Emily reached for the menu.
“The bread looks good. I think I might have the steak. Is that okay?” Emily asked.
“Yeh definitely. Order what ever you want. I think I’m gunna have steak too.” He replied.
Finalising their orders with the waiters, the two went on talking as if they were old friends. A slight chill running up Emily's spine as Kevin took her hands in his. He smoothed them gently, protecting them with his large yet softer hands. Her clammy hands interlocked with his also clammy palms felt in some way natural to her. A slight smile appearing on her face showing her feeling of content made Kevin squeeze her hands tighter, caressing them in his hands as he spoke to her.
As their identical orders arrived at the table, the two glanced at each other lovingly before releasing their grasps and thanking the waiter. A steak, baked potatoes and salad graced both their plates and two colas with a lemon slice for afterwards. Kevin removed the lemon wedge from his glass, scowling at it horribly.
"What's wrong? Don't you like lemon?" Emily asked puzzled.
"No. Well, I'm allergic to fruit" Kevin replied sarcastically
"Allergic, really? Wow" She answered back
"Well, when I say 'allergic', I just don't like fruit at all, so I should be allergic to it." He replied once again seriously, but laughing slightly at the comment.
"Oh I see. Well, your secret is safe with me" Emily said grinning as he looked up at her while he ate a piece of the tender steak.
The conversation continued as the two finished their meals and Emily excused herself to go to the bathroom. However, on returning to the table, she saw that Kevin was gone. Baffled by the whole situation, she went to sit down at the table again, before being pulled from behind, eyes now covered by a pair of soft hands.
"Kevin? What are you...” She went to ask before he interrupted her.
"Shhhhhhh. Just trust me." He whispered to her.
She began to question herself, wondering if she should trust him or not. After all, she didn't even know him. Taking a deep, but slow breath, she replied by saying, "Okay, I trust you"
The next second, she was able to see again as he released his hands from her eyes, and he spun her round, pulling her close to him. With his left hand he took her right hand, and put his left hand on her back.
"Do you know how to dance?" He asked.
"Umm, I danced a little when I was younger, but not so much now" She replied unenthusiastically.
"Good." He smirked.
Suddenly, a piano began to play in the background. Turning her head, she saw a pianist in the corner of the room, sitting at a long, black piano, occasionally glancing up at the two. Kevin pulled Emily in close, before moving his feet along with the music. She caught up gradually and Kevin began to move slower as the pianist slowed the tempo of his playing. Emily nuzzled her head into his warm chest, his soft, cotton cardigan proving to be very comfortable for her head. The music soothing them as they danced, the two were intertwined with each other, slowing moving as the music came to a calm close. The less frequent, high pitched keys on the piano made Emily glance up at Kevin, to see him glancing down at her smiling sweetly.
"What is it?" She smiled back.
"You're beautiful Emily." he said honestly, taking a breath as he spoke, awaiting a reply.
Shocked, Emily continued looking up at him, studying his dark brown eyes. She reached out her hand, smoothing his face gently whilst saying, "You are perfect Kevin."
Almost in tears, Emily looked down to the floor, nearly crying with happiness. Kevin's hand slowly reached up, touching her chin, turning her attention back to him. Locking eyes once again, Kevin slowed came in closer to her face, kissing her once softly on the cheek. Breathing out slowly, she looked at him again, before he leant down to kiss her again. His lips softly brushing against hers, before kissing her firmly on the lips. As Emily opened her eyes to look at Kevin again, she stared at him for a long time, as if reading him. She nuzzled in close to him again, grinning into his jacket.
Finally releasing each other, Kevin cleared the bill with one of the waiters and slid his arms around Emily's waist while walking out of the restaurant. Cameras flashing around them once again, Kevin placed his jacket around Emily's shoulders, protecting her from the paparazzi and the rain. On reaching the car, they were able to escape the flashing lights, before driving away and heading back to Emily and Lauren's apartment.
Pulling up to the doors of the apartment, Emily reached to get out of the car before Kevin shouted, "No, wait a minute."
He ran out of his door and around to Emily's door, opening it and bowing, attempting to impersonate a chauffeur. Emily laughed before grabbing his hand and also playing along.
"Why thank you Sir." She answered mockingly.
Kevin laughing, he pulled her close and kissed her again.
"I could get used to this you know" She laughed, before squeezing him tightly.
"I hate to say goodbye, but I have to go now - we have a book signing in the morning." He mumbled sadly.
"Oh. That's okay. This was fun though, thank you for an amazing night." Emily said reassuringly to him.
"I'm glad you enjoyed it. I did too. Maybe we can do it again sometime?" he asked smiling cheekily at her.
"Definitely." She replied grinning back at him. She hugged him one last time, before letting go of his hand and blowing him a kiss goodnight on her way into the apartment's main doors. He pretended to catch it in his hand and put it in his pocket, blowing her back one too. Emily smiled gratefully, shutting the door behind her. She skipped up the stairs to their second floor apartment, humming the words to one of her favourite songs.
"I'm burning up, burning up, for you baby..."
