Can't have you.

21.

As the girls climbed into Kieran’s car, they both smiled and said ‘hello’ to Kieran and the friend from before. They slid into the back seats while Kieran put Emily’s suitcase into the boot. The music played quietly as they drove to the airport where Emily would get on a plane and go home to LA, leaving Lauren to go back to her empty flat where she would most likely get drunk and wallow in self pity of loosing her friend for the second time.

Kieran pulled into the drop off bay, letting Emily and Lauren go into the airport together so that they could say their goodbyes. Emily refused for Lauren to stay with her, but Lauren being the stubborn girl she is, refused to leave until Emily had boarded the plane.

“Let’s go get a drink, non-alcoholic of course.” Lauren said after Emily had put her luggage through.

“Alright.” Emily said, as she and Lauren walked into the little café.

The girls ordered their choice of drinks before sitting down and talking about when Lauren was going to go to LA to visit Emily.

“I will come to LA in a month or so maybe, Claire wants to come too mind.”

“Of course, as long as you come and see me.”

“Fine, that’s a deal. In a few months ill get the tickets and fly out with Claire so she can meet Joe. Maybe she’ll fall in love with him and he’ll fall in love with her, then that stupid cow Camilla can’t get him back.”

“That’s a very good idea, Lauren. Probably the best idea ive heard for a while.”

“Im good at that sort of thing are I?”

“Yeah, you’re amazing at it.” As Emily said this, her flight was announced.

“Looks like its time for someone to go home and convince Kevin to let her become a Mrs. Jonas.” Lauren laughed.

“Looks like it, doesn’t it.”

“Yup.”

Lauren and Emily walked to the boarding gate in silence. When they reached it, they gave each other a hug and said goodbye to each other. Deep down Lauren wanted to cry but didn’t because she knew it would only make things harder for the both of them; after all, once again they were both leaving their best friend.

“Remember, come over soon and ring me at least once a week.”

“Of course, and email me loads. But ring me once Kevin’s proposed.” Lauren laughed.

“Ok.”

“Don’t forget to give Nick the letter. And can you tell him he’s forgiven, tell Joe to get ready for having someone fun in his life and tell Kevin I said to flaming propose so I can go to a good wedding and be bridesmaid.”

“Ok, I will.”

“Thank you Emily. Im gunna miss you.”

“Ill miss you too. But I gotta go, bye Lauren.”

“Bye Em.”

The girls hugged quickly before Emily boarded the plane, leaving Lauren to make her way out of the airport to her brother’s car. She climbed in silently and sat back, strapping herself in.

“Do you wanna go home?” Kieran asked from the driver’s seat.

“Yes please.” Lauren replied, looking out of the window.

Kieran and his friend talked on the way back to Lauren’s flat, leaving her time to think about having to go to LA after promising Emily she would. Deciding on taking Claire calmed her nerves, if she had to go on her own she wouldn’t be very calm about it, but since Claire had basically said she wanted to meet Joe because he seems cool, Lauren thought it would be a good idea to take Claire too.

Lauren was dropped off at her flat and went in. once inside, she collapsed on the sofa and fell asleep, having not slept properly since Emily arrived in England.

While Lauren slept on her sofa, Emily read a book on her flight back to LA. Even though Emily was reading, her thoughts were on how she was going to get Lauren to come to LA and realise she needed to stay there, with her, like before.

Landing back in LA, Emily smiled; she was home now even though England was also her home. As soon as she was off of the plane and had her luggage she ran to where she knew Kevin would be waiting. And sure enough, there he was, looking around at the masses of people walking around. He was stood with Nick and Joe who had obviously decided to come with Kevin so that they looked normal, which they were they had just decided that being together wasn’t a good idea, at least for the moment anyway. Emily ran through the crowds, her suitcase dragging behind her, and into Kevin’s awaiting arms.

“Welcome back.” He smiled, before kissing her head.

“It’s good to be back.” Emily smiled.

“Hey Em.” Joe said.

“Hey guys. I have a message for each of you from Lauren.” Emily said, smiling.

“Oh what’s that?” Nick instantly said.

“Well, Joe she said to get ready for someone fun in your life. You’ll understand soon, don’t worry. Kevin, she said hurry up and propose so she can come to a wedding and be a bridesmaid.” Emily smiled, before turning to Nick, her face suddenly serious, “Nick, she said you’re forgiven.”

“Cool, looks like im gunna be having some fun.” Joe laughed.

“Looks like I better start thinking of ways to propose.” Kevin smiled and laughed.

Nick stood silently, images of Lauren passing through his mind, a small smile on his lips, he had been forgive, now all he had to do was get her back.

Back in England, Lauren was fast asleep, dreaming of times when things were easier and she was happy. She woke suddenly though, startled by the image she had just seen in her dream. It was of her and Nick, the day they met. The smile on his face was one Lauren had imprinted in her memory but had managed to put it to the back of her head until now. Obviously seeing Emily and writing the letter for Nick had brought it back, maybe trying to convince her to go back to LA and see him. What ever it was though, Lauren was sure the memory, fresh in her mind, was going to pop up a bit until she saw him again.
