Can't have you.
20.
The three days that Emily spent in England went fast. The girls spent all day together on the last day that Emily was over and most of the day together on the second day after Emily had gone to see her family in the morning.
During the second day, Emily spent the morning with her family while Lauren stayed at her flat and wrote a letter to Nick. The letter read:
Nick,
I love you, hell I think im even in love with you, but I can’t come back there. at the moment this is my home and it probably will be my home for a very long time to come. I miss you too, but you don’t understand how much it hurts me to think about everything that happened, well you probably do, but you don’t understand what happened properly, no one ever will. I told Emily I will come out to LA to see her in a few months (my friend Claire wants to meet Joe). So like I told Emily I will come out, but I wont be staying with Em, ill be in a hotel. If I promise to see you, you have to promise me that you won’t make it harder than it already will be for me to come back to England again. I forgive you Nick and I would love to be friends, even though that may be all we are for a long time, if not forever. How about we email each other every now and then? That way we are like normal friends who had to move away from each other. Nick, I love you, I miss you and im so sorry for everything I caused to happen.
Lauren, xx
After scribbling down the letter, Lauren folded it, put it into the envelope and sealed it. After giving the envelope to Emily to give to Nick, the girls went out together.
The third day was spent with Emily packing while Lauren rolled around the floor in fits of giggles after drinking too much Dr Pepper and eating chocolate at half past 8 in the morning. While Lauren rolled around the floor laughing, Emily thought about how it had been in LA with Lauren like this most mornings.
“Why are you so hyper?” Emily asked Lauren as she stifled a giggle, knowing that laughing would only make her friend worse.
“Because Emily! I had chocolate fro breakfast and Dr pepper, but don’t tell my mum she will kill me.” Lauren laughed.
“You should really have normal breakfasts.”
“And what would be the fun in that?”
“There wouldn’t be. But you wouldn’t be so strange.”
“Exactly. What am I if I can’t be strange?” Lauren hysterically laughed.
“You would be Lauren, the normal person.”
“I am not normal.” With that, Lauren fell onto the floor again.
Rolling around on the floor, Lauren hit her head on the bed, only causing her to laugh more and cause Emily to also break down in fits of laughter.
“I am going to miss this.” Emily said, sadness in her tone.
“So am I, but you could always come back.” Lauren smiled hopefully.
“Or you could move your ass back to LA with me.” Emily smiled, also hopefully.
“Not at the moment, maybe one day though.”
“Well make that one day soon, it’s going to be weird going back there now.”
“Alright, ill try. But if I do come back, I may have to bring Claire, especially if she meets Joe.”
“Deal.” Emily stuck out her little finger.
“Deal.” Lauren copied, also sticking out her little finger.
The girls linked fingers and shook their hands, laughing gently.
“What times Kieran getting here to take me to the airport.”
“Uhm, 1 o’clock. And hey, im coming too.”
“I know, I mean like take me to leave from the airport.”
“I know what you mean Em.”
“So what are we going to do for 3 hours?”
“There’s plenty of time to watch Twilight.”
“You are actually crazy obsessed with that film.”
“I know, but that’s how this girl rolls.”
“Shut up.”
“Ok mummy.”
The girls laughed as they walked to the small living room of Lauren’s flat and put on Twilight. Both shut up instantly as the DVD began to play. Every now and then the two would recite some of the words and then laugh before going back to watching the film. When the film finished, Lauren took out the DVD and checked the clock that was hung above the television.
“We still have just over half an hour to spare, we would have had longer if you didn’t rewind the DVD about ten times.”
“What shall we do?”
“Eat ice cream!”
“Only if you have cookie dough.”
“Of course I do and I have chocolate fudge brownie.”
“Oh yeah, our favourites.”
“Come on.”
Lauren stood and ran into the kitchen, instantly she went to the freezer and pulled out a tub of cookie dough for Emily and a tub of chocolate fudge brownie for herself. As Lauren got the ice cream, Emily grabbed two spoons. The girls both pulled their selves on to the sides and ate their ice cream.
“I don’t wanna leave without you.”
“I don’t want you to leave. Kevin can’t have you anymore, im keeping you here.”
“You can’t do that, I think Kevin will come and steal me back.”
“Well, he would have to get through me first.”
“Alright.”
“So when are you and Kevin going to get married and have children?”
“What? You’re trying to get me to get married and have kids already, ive not even finished college yet and im only 18.”
“Soo… what’s your point?”
“Im too young. Plus, I refuse to get married until you come to LA.”
“Looks like its going to be while then.”
“Fine then, im leaving, you can’t keep me anymore.”
“I didn’t want you anyways.”
“Whatever.”
The girls instantly burst into fits of laughter. Lauren fell off of the counter a few moments after beginning to laugh.
“Get up.” Emily wheezed.
“No.” Lauren said while trying to stop laughing.
About ten minutes later, Lauren had finally stopped laughing and stood up. Emily was still perched on the side, ice cream in one hand, spoon in the other. A car horn beeped outside, Lauren instantly knew who it was, Kieran was here to take them to the airport, it was almost time to say goodbye to Emily.
“Come on, Kieran’s here.”
“Alright.” Emily jumped off the side and walked to the bedroom where she grabbed her suitcase.
Pulling it along behind her, Emily walked to the hall where Lauren stood pulling on her coat. Emily followed Laurens actions and put on her coat before they left to go to Kieran’s car.
