Can't have you.

18.

3 days later. LA, Emily had booked her tickets to go to England, had rung Lauren to tell her she was going over today and was now waiting on Kevin to give her a lift to the airport.

Kevin walked out of the kitchen; he held 2 envelopes in his hands.

“Em, I need you to read this one.” Kevin passed Emily an envelope, “And give this one to Lauren. Please.” Kevin said, almost begging.

“Ok. Ill read it, but im not promising that ill give Lauren this.” Emily held out the second envelope with Lauren’s name written on it.

“Thank you.” Kevin said before kissing Emily’s head.

“Lets go, ill read it in the car.”

“Alright.” Kevin nodded, grabbing his car keys off of the side.

Once in the car, Emily strapped in and opened the envelope. She pulled out the single piece of paper and read it.

Emily,
I need you to give the second letter to Lauren, its got a CD in it I really want her to listen to. The letter’s more important though. I know you blame me for every thing that’s happened but seriously, I need Lauren to read the letter and I need you to give it to her. Emily, I love her, no forget that, im in love with her. She’s the one person I care about. Please. Thank you Emily, for everything, even though you wont have a clue what im chatting about.
Nick.

Emily re-read the letter. Nick had just basically begged her to help him win back Lauren. and even though Emily hated Nick right now, she knew if Nick won Lauren back then she would come back and she knew that Lauren was in love with Nick too. Deciding on helping Nick out, she quickly scribbled a note for Kevin to give to Nick on the back of the letter Nick had wrote to Emily.

The note read:
Ok Nick, ill help you. But only because I know Lauren’s in love with you.

when they reached the airport, Kevin parked and walked with Emily, staying with her until she had to board the plane. The couple sat, talking and laughing about how they met and how Emily ruined Kevin’s shirt with ice cream.

Emily’s plane was called soon after, Emily stood and so did Kevin. He walked her to her boarding gate where they stood hugging for a few moments.

A few hours later:
Lauren was sat in her living room, a bottle of water clutched between her fingers. In half an hour she had to leave to pick Emily up from the airport, it would be the first time she had seen her in 6 months and the last time they had seen each other they hadn’t been on very good terms. Standing, Lauren walked into the small kitchen and grabbed an apple. She pulled herself onto the side and ate the apple while contemplating on whether she should go to LA soon and try to sort things out with Nick. No matter how hard she tried to forget about him, she couldn’t, she’s in love with him, end of.

After finishing the apple, Lauren chucked the core in the bin and washed her hands. Kieran was picking her up in a few minutes to take her to the airport to get Emily. Lauren slid on her shoes and walked into the hallway when she heard Kieran honk the horn on his car. Lauren walked out of the bedroom and into the hall where she grabbed her coat and slid it on as she grabbed her keys and left her small flat.

When she reached Kieran’s car, she slid into the passenger’s seat and did her seat belt.

“Hey.” Kieran smiled; in the back was one of Kieran’s friends.

“Hey.” The boy in the back said.

“I wont talking to you, you idiot.” Kieran said.

“I know, I was being polite to your sister.” The boy said.

“Hi.” Lauren said to both, hoping to shut them up.

“Ready?” Kieran asked.

“As ill ever be. Can I choose the music?” Lauren asked Kieran, hoping he was in a good mood and would let her listen to the music of her choice.

“No!” he said laughing.

“Fine then, ill listen to my ipod, thank god I put it in my bag.” Lauren laughed along with him as she pulled out her ipod.

“Alright then, lets go.” Kieran smiled as he drove up the road in the direction of the motorway.

Lauren slid in my headphones and turned on her purple ipod. The familiar music filled Lauren’s head as we drove along in the early morning light. Slowly but steadily, she drifted to sleep, her head hitting the window as it sloped to a side. Vaguely she heard Kieran speak before she fell into a deep sleep.

Kieran had said to his friend, “Move her head so she doesn’t get a bad neck.”

When Lauren woke up, Kieran was parking his car outside of the airport. Lauren pulled out her headphones and turned off her ipod before chucking it back in her bag.

“Come in with me please?” Lauren asked Kieran and his friend.

“Alright.” Kieran’s friend patted her shoulder.

“Don’t you wanna see Em on your own?” Kieran asked Lauren while he gave his friend an evil look.

“No. I don’t know who this is going to go. I want company waiting for her anyway.” she smiled at Kieran, trying to reassure him.

“Alright.” Kieran turned off the engine and they walked into the airport.

Standing by where Emily had agreed to meet Lauren, the 3 talked about anything that Lauren could think of to keep her mind of off the worry of seeing Emily and the way she reacted when she saw Lauren again. The worry built up in Lauren’s stomach vanished when she saw her best friend walk out, her eyes scanning the area for Lauren. When Emily saw Lauren, she ran over to her, dragging her suitcase behind her.

When Emily and Lauren reached each other, they engulfed each other in a hug, tears forming in their eyes. Kieran stood and watched his younger sister and his younger sisters best friend, a smile on his face, Lauren wasn’t moping anymore, she had Emily and Claire to help her get over everything and maybe she might move back to LA to finish off her course there and be with her friend again.

Finally the girls broke apart. Both had read marks from the tears streaming down their faces.

“Why do we always end up crying?” Lauren asked Emily while laughing.

“Because we are sad.” Emily laughed along.

“Come on, lets go see Kieran and his random friend.” Lauren laughed as she dragged Emily to where Kieran was stood.

“Emily.” Kieran nodded.

“Kieran.” Emily mimicked his actions.

“Come on, lets go home.” Lauren smiled, dragging her friend and brother to the car.

Reaching the car, Lauren made Kieran open it and then jumped into the back seat. She shoed Kieran’s friend away when he tried to sit in the back too and made him sit in the front so that Emily could sit next to her. The whole way back to Lauren’s flat Emily and Lauren chatted about every thing that’s happened. Emily told Lauren that Kevin had moved in with her but shared her room because she didn’t want Lauren’s room changed.

When they reached Lauren’s flat, Kieran helped Emily carry her suitcase to the small flat that Lauren now called home. Once the suitcase was in the door Kieran left, leaving the girls alone. Lauren showed Emily the spare room where she would be sleeping before collapsing on the sofa.

“So, this is were you’ve been living for the past 6 months?” Emily said.

“Well not really, I stayed at mum and dads for a month until I found this place.” Lauren said as gestured around her with her hands.

“Oh right.” Emily nodded.

“So, you and Kevin are a big thing now then?”

“Yeah. Oh ive got something for you.” Emily said pulling things out of her bag.

Emily handed Lauren the envelope that held the letter and the CD from Nick before passing Lauren the friendship bracelet she had left behind.

“Oh my god, thank you Emily. I was so upset when I got outside of the apartment and saw it wasn’t on my wrist.” Lauren said as she slid the bracelet back on her wrist.

“That’s ok. At first I thought you might have left it there on purpose. Why didn’t you come back and get it?” Emily asked, sadness in her tone.

“No, I would never leave it on purpose. I didn’t come back because I thought you wouldn’t want me too and because I left me keys on the side.” Lauren said shrugging.

“Oh right, well you got it now so everything’s good.” Emily said smiling.

“What’s this?” Lauren said, turning the envelope over in her hands.

“Open it, but promise me you’ll read it and listen to it.” Emily said as she gestured towards the envelope.

“Ok.” Lauren smiled.

“Promise?” Emily asked, sticking out her little finger.

“Promise.” Lauren said as she copied Emily’s actions.
