Can't have you.
12.
A few hours had passed before Lauren finally waltzed back into the apartment, finding Emily and Kevin curled up on the sofa watching a DVD. Emily waved quickly at Lauren as she walked through their door, before turning back to the TV screen immediately, trying not to miss the next big scene. Kevin also looked back, smiling sympathetically at Lauren, mouthing the words, “Nick is sorry” at her. Lauren returned the smile, before slipping into her room, trying not to disturb the two. She slid through her door, clicking it shut quietly behind her.
She flung herself onto her bed, looking up at the ceiling thoughtfully, thinking about Nick. She turned her head from side to side, trying to make out words and images in the uneven plaster on the wall. She thought about how they hadn’t finished decorating their flat and how they had planned to finish it 2 years ago when they first arrived in LA. Lauren turned on her side, closing her eyes, attempting to hold back the tears. She opened her eyes once again, more refreshed. Climbing off of her bed, she reached into one of the many bags that she had flung across the floor. Pulling her hand out, she clutched onto a litre bottle of clear water, underneath the sea of new designer clothes. Sliding back onto the bed, she undid the bottles red top, the familiar logo, the label read Smirnoff, hugged the bottle tightly.
After another long hour, Emily pulled herself up from the sofa and walked up to Lauren’s door, knocking gently and calling her name. there was no reply. As Emily approached the door handle, the door swung open, revealing Lauren, stumbling drunken mess. The smell of vodka radiated off of her, and a huge grin grew across her face.
“Hey Emily! I love you, you know!” Lauren repeated over and over again.
“Lauren!” Emily’s voice was shaky but stern, “You’re drunk aren’t you? Why did you do this? You’re so much better than getting drunk” Emily’s face looked worried, anticipated and afraid of what Lauren could do when she was drunk, having not seen her this state before.
“Emily, im a little bit drunk, I am not going to say im not, because well… the evidence in my room” Lauren giggled slightly, hiccupping at the same time, “I done this, because it’s the only to way to forget, to not remember him or anything that’s happened. Plus its fun.” Lauren giggled, before falling about in fits of uncontrollable laughter. A tear rolled down her eye as she struggled to stand once again.
“Please Lauren. you are so much better than this, you don’t need to get drunk, its not you. You’re the girl that doesn’t get drunk and is level headed” Emily shook her head as she pulled Lauren up and steered her towards her bed.
“No im not better than this Emily, honestly. Its not my fault im like this though” stabbing her finger toward the living room, Lauren spoke again, “Its his brothers fault. That curley haired heartbreaker made me like this” once again Lauren was in tears. This was the Lauren that Emily now knew, after spending hours with her through the night as she cried.
“You are Lauren. Calm down, go to bed and sober up a bit. We’ll talk about everything then” Emily kept trying to steer the drunken mess that was Lauren, towards the bed.
“No Emily. I am not going to sober up, I am going to stay a drunken mess forever, because I don’t feel pain now. I don’t feel pain from what happened from the one person I thought actually loved me when I loved them back.” Lauren stumbled towards the door once again.
“NO! Lauren, go to bed and sober up” Emily was shouting now, trying to control the tears that were threatening to spill, this wasn’t her friend now, it was a monster that had taken over the body Lauren once inhabited.
“Don’t shout at me Emily.” With that Lauren swung her hand, hitting emily’s face as she did so. Falling onto the floor, tears streamed down Lauren’s face. She had done one of the things she never thought she would, she had hit her best firend.
“I… I…. c..can’t believe you done that” Emily stood, clutching her cheek.
Lauren stood back shocked at her crime, but then attempting immediately to help Emily up from the floor, apologising frantically.
“I’m so sorry Em, I didn’t mean it…” Lauren said, her voice trailing off as her throat became clogged with tears.
Kevin rushed over, shooing Lauren’s flailing arms away, lifting Emily up gently by her shoulders, remaining close by her afterwards. Lauren outstretched her arms apologetically, trying to pull Emily close, but Kevin stood in the way, guarding her from her meaningless apologies. Kevin looked at her harshly, Lauren looking back in anguish.
“Kevin, move, I need to talk to her properly” Lauren’s speech slurring as her volume rose.
“No Lauren, you could’ve spoken to me properly anytime” Emily shoved past Kevin, now face to face with Lauren. “I’m always there for you, picking up after your mess with boys and family, and this is how you repay me every time. Apologising frantically, and me forgiving you every time. I will forgive you Lauren… again, but I can’t live with you any longer. It feels like you’re suffocating me! I just can’t trust you any longer. I’m sorry.” Emily spoke angrily but humbly as she came to a close. She looked at Lauren as if she were truly hurt, turning away from her in disgust. Lauren managed to utter a few words, before sloping into her room.
“I’m sorry Em… I umm, well, good night,” Lauren stumbled into her room, coughing horribly due to the build up of tears in her throat.
Emily walked over to the smooth, marble worktops in their kitchen, leant against it awkwardly, clearly stressed from the series of identical events. Kevin walked over softly, gently rubbing Emily’s back, smiling sympathetically before pulling Emily in close, whispering calm, reassuring words into her ear.
Its short but never mind.
Some interesting stuff is happening, then some no so interesting stuff and then the ideas I stole off of Claire are coming into place :)
Enjoy my pretties :D
