Can't have you.

1.

Emily and Lauren were always together growing up. There’s virtually nothing that they don’t know about the other after having seen each other pretty much every day for 14 years. After applying for many different colleges they were over the moon when they got into the college they wanted to go to most, LA City College. They moved out of their parent’s homes and into their apartment 5,636 miles away in Los Angeles. Even know they are seen sneaking away from reality to catch up over a big meal of junk food.

Monday 25th May 2010 at 13:27pm and as per usual, the two are queuing up in the line ready for a heart attack on a plate – Mc Donald’s!

“McChicken sandwich over here please...”

“.. Ooo and I’ll have a chicken and bacon sandwich!”

“Comin’ right up” the spotty teen worker replied.

As the girls handed over their well-earned cash the greasy fingered teen, they slid away from the front desk ready to take their seat in ‘their booth’. Spinning around with their trays in hand on the freshly mopped floor, a sudden collision brings the girls tumbling to the floor. Four new faces hovering over them, two stumbling upwards and two still at ground level, they peer out from their fringes and set their eyes on some fresh new faces. Lauren and the curly haired youngster bang heads as Lauren stumbles from her knees to her feet, red faced with embarrassment. On looking upon the stranger, both mumbled sincere apologies to one another again and again. Over the mumbling next to them, Emily and the other attractive figure look up to apologise also, and smile at each other whilst looking into each others eyes. As the four got to their feet, the on looking couple make excuses and walk out before placing their order. The two remaining boys with identical brown locks both wore sunglasses and baseball caps, as if to hide their identity. As we all apologised once again, the two boys started up a conversation. Their names, Kevin and Nick reminded the girls of the boys they’d once known in England. As the two issued their farewell to the girls and repaid for their meals, they left the restaurant with just their names being known. As they walked away, they looked back at the girls smiling as Lauren and Emily nudged each other jokily.

As the girls finished their meals they begrudgingly made their way back to their afternoon lectures. Walking slowly back to the college campus they spoke of the mysterious but charming boys they had met that afternoon and how they had only found out their names and had been given no way to contact them again.

After their afternoon lectures they agreed to look them up in a phone book knowing that the chances to find the boys were slim. Walking into their shared apartment, they found out their 2 phone books. Each settling down onto the sofa they started their search for the boys. After spending the majority of their evening looking through the phone book and finding nothing they gave up and went to the kitchen to rummage for a quick fix of chocolate, not bothering to search for anything proper to eat. After finding their secret stash of chocolate they went back into the living room, sitting down on the sofa they turned on the TV and went straight to E! Once again the familiar bands, the Jonas Brothers, were the hottest news, as their new tour in LA began. Sighing, Lauren grabbed the remote and changed the channel, bored of hearing about the Jonas Brothers for the millionth time that day.

Covered in chocolate, upset and feeling lonely, the girls finally realised that their chance of seeing the two strangers again were virtually nil. 1322 Kevin’s and 1673 Nick’s in LA.

“A shot in the dark really isn’t it Lar?” Emily said.

“Yeh I don’t know why we attempted this manic search – We are MAD!” Lauren replied, and the girls fell about laughing. “WOAH! Look at the time now, and we’ve got another lecture in the morning!”

As the girls shut their phonebooks for the last time, their hopes of finding the boys died. The girls chucked their dishes in the sink and chocolate wrappers in the bin before hopping into bed.

“Night Em. See you in the morning”

“You too Lar, sweet dreams.”

The next few days flew by, both of the girls went to their lectures and done the everyday thing that they did. They snuck off to buy junk food when they were supposed to be working and sat up late laughing. All the while they had images of Monday afternoon in their minds, images of their charming strangers and how they would never see them again. As the girls tried to avoid the subject of the two young men, both always managed to bring it up in the conversation they had. Whether it was about school work or food it always popped up, like their lives depended on it.
