Cheap Talk, Long Walks

You Make Me Feel

After Julie shut her door with a big bang it was very quit in the White house. Janet sighed deep not expecting any word of her only son. She knew this was gonna happen sooner or later, but still it was awkward. Patrick and she talk things through and it seemed to fit so well. There was room enough in this house for three more people and their children were of the same age. It was just Julie that was the problem. It doesn’t matter what you did or what you say, it always was not how she want it. Now they say it’s age but it's an easy thing to hide behind. No, Janet wasn’t gonna lie about this. The only reason she act this way is because the sudden leave of her father. And that’s the only truth. But it was hard for all of them, she never sees that. David was the only person who could handle it well. Or that’s what at least Janet thought.

“Mom…” David’s voice broke the silence. “Julie doesn’t need to act this way but she has a point. We knew you were dating Patrick, but that it was this serious? We hardly have seen the guy and now he’s moving in with us!? We don’t even know his kids, how are we supposed to know if we like them? It’s like completely strangers are moving in with us. Would you like that?” His voice didn’t sound angry or harsh or mean, there was sadness in it. “Way to go mom.” And with that he went to his room. Not like the way Julie did but soundless.

Janet knew her son was right. But she was so scared to tell. Patrick always wanted to do something together with the kids but it always was she who talked that idea out of his head, and instead they always went doing something together. Being alone with him made her feel like a whole other person. Someone who good laugh again, young. With him she felt safe, it was like she could breathe again. All the screaming and yelling, the worries, the bills she couldn’t pay.

Letting Patrick move in with them seemed like a good solution but what she didn’t know it was gonna be a nightmare.
